Help Dialing a contacts number

The only thing I miss from my Hero is that when I was going to make a phone call to one of my contacts I could just start dialing their name and it would pop up. For instance if I wanted to call a guy named Tim Jones I could start dialing 8465 and his name would pop up as those numbers correspond with the letters in his name.

On the Optimus S I have to go to the contacts tab, then search for the person, then open their contact and hit the phone to call them.

Is there a way I can do it like I did on the Hero? I hope that made sense...

Other than this I LOVE this phone in comparison with the Hero.

Did I read somewhere, that the OP was supposed to be a Baby Android, a low End type of Android, that Starters can get used to and not be so Complicated.

I love to ave that feature trust me.

maybe a App is online.. example Pinch screen, we do not have .

What I do is on the first desktop screen to the right of the home page, I use for one touch dialing. I think you have to download LauncherPro for this to work, it's been a while since I set it up for me to be 100% sure.

Anyway, go to a blank spot and press until you get the Add to Home Screen menu, then select shortcuts, then select direct dial, then select a contact. The list will have it broken down into work, home, mobile, or other in regards to the contacts numbers, so if you have more than one number for someone, they will show up multiple times in the list, each with the different number. For instance, under my wife it would list:

Wife
Home (xxx) xxx-xxxx

Mobile (xxx) xxx-xxxx

Work (xxx) xxx-xxxx

Just select the one you want for one touch dialing and that number will be set on the desktop. Just tap the icon (if you have a picture assigned to that contact, or are synced with facebook, the picture will appear as the icon) and you make the call. No more call log searches, no more scrolling through or typing for numbers.

If you have a different theme downloaded that lets you adjust the shortcut bar at the bottom of your screen, you can add your most called number or two there. I use the Mac theme and I have 5 icons in my shortcuts bar and I use two spots for direct dial.

If you don't want to make a direct dial number for someone because you don't call them that often, if you press the menu button, you can select the search feature and then search for contacts by name.

Also, if you want to download something from the market, I used a free app called Dialer One for a while that works off the T9 principle and should fill the gap you're looking to fill.

I've used direct dial shortcuts with my optimus in the stock launcher, adw, and launcher pro. Seems to work fine no matter which launcher you are using.

I just use the voice search. Press and hold the search button, then when it tells you to speak, say "call tim jones on mobile." Works great. Google the voice search for more things you with out like texts and email.
