Ah, there is the anti-shatter protector... If you remove it you may void your warranty for screen issues, according to at least one person working for Sony who was asked about it by an XDA forum member.

If you've removed yours can you tell me whether the underlying layer is any more resistant to finger prints, less reflective, and whether viewing angles are affected at all?

Ah no luckily I didn't remove mine.
