Root Did I Root My Phone?

Just downloaded Gingerbreak 1.2 and follow the steps to root my phone. The phone reboots and I go into settings and it still says I have Android 2.2.2. Did I do something wrong? Please advise. Tks.

Is Superuser installed? If yes, you have root. Root doesn't mean you have 2.3, Cyanogenmod, or MIUI. You have to install those yourself (check out the stickied posts in All Things Root).

Rooting your phone allows you to access parts of the phone that were not available to you when you got it. It basically gives you something similar to administrator rights in windows. Here is a link for some more generic information:

If you want to put a 2.3 ROM on your phone (CM7/MIUI) here is a post to get you started. There are many other helpful posts in the all things root section here.
