Did Kit Kat turn on App notifications?

Kind of a stupid question.

Poking around settings > more > application manager, whenever I click on an app, I see a checkbox for "Show Notifications" and that box is checked.

I didn't check it. I mean, I am absolutely positive I didn't check it, because unless it is one of a select few apps (like, say, mail or messaging) I don't want any damn notifications.

In fact, there are several applications (for example, Twitter or Groupon) in which I have turned off the notifications from the settings within the app itself, yet, when I check the application manager, those apps also have the "Show Notifications" checkbox checked. (I haven't been getting notifications from those apps, though. I figure the in-app settings override the application manager in this regard.)

But, I have started picking up notifications from apps I've rarely (if ever) opened, and certainly have no interest in hearing from. (Flipbook, for one -- I only opened that once to see what the heck it was.)

I am curious: Did the "Show Notifications" checkbox in the Application Manager always exist? Or is that a new modification with Kit Kat? (And is there any way to change the default to "Don't show any damn notifications?" or do I have to go through each and every app in the app manager to turn off the unwanted notifications?)

It was that way in jb also, in order to effectively turn off push notifications for an app that you dont want them from you do need to go to app info and uncheck that box! I have found two diff apps that I had somehow found a work around to that and as soon as I wld uncheck that box n exit out, the app somehow wld turn it rite back on, ugh! But for the most part it works with most apps it seems!
