Did Mail app change recently?

I may be imagining this, but since that recent system update it seems to me that the built-in mail app has changed it behavior. Previously, I would open it and see all the mail currently on the server and maybe read one or two. Then, after reading the mail on my PC (which deletes the messages from the server), the next time I used Mail on my phone it would clean out all those messages from the inbox and I would just see anything new.

Now, all of the messages it has seen remain in the inbox and I guess I'll have to manually delete them, which is a pain since I get a lot of mail. I think I'll wait this time and see if they eventually age out and get deleted, but I am pretty sure it didn't used to work this way.

Are there any better POP email apps out there?

As I understand it the mail has been fixed to handle POP correctly. It used to delete mail off the server since the Froyo upgrade and it has taken until now for it to be fixed.

This is how it worked for me on both 2.1 and 2.2 (before I switched to Gmail - now that it supports multiple sending identities).

I have the same issue. It somehow did change recently.

The mail app is no longer being synced for mails which have been removed in your mailbox at your ISP. You manually have to delete them or wait for them to timeout according to your settings.

I prefer it is in sync with the mailbox at my ISP as before the update.

Thanks - at least I know I wasn't imagining things. This got to be so annoying that I discovered and installed K-9 Mail and am now using that. Lots of nice features. In fact, so many that I've got to look for some documentation (hah!) to figure out what some of them do.
