Did some LTE network testing in NYC

Just for a good measure, and to make sure everyone gets updated on how robust Verizon's LTE network (still) is. Tests performed in midtown Manhattan NYC after 8pm on a Monday in a busy intersection.

Very good to see. Especially since just yesterday I had a guy whining to me, complaining that "yeah it might be fast now, but once everyone's on it, it won't be any faster than our 3G is already".

Good to see the numbers too! Makes me get this sudden urge to go see my brother on the island, just so I can pass through the 50s :P

I work in the city and 4G speeds are simply outrageous. However, I notice that 4G drops a bunch and I also lose my data connection when the network is switching from 4G to 3G. I ride Metro North and it does this the whole way up the shoreline as well. Do you think this is the TB itself, or the network?

That, I can't say, but I also noticed a hiccup in data when switching between 3 and 4G. Probably more network-related, but I don't know anyone else near a 4G area with a different phone to test

Yeah that problem exists, and I believe it's probably network related. It happens occasionally but it's totally worth being early adopter and having a wideband cable modem in your pocket :D

After seeing this yesterday I tried SpeedTest at about 4:30pm - in Midtown on 33rd & Madison... On 4GLTE my speeds were 2.8 and 1.86Mbps download. 2.61 and 2.16 Mbps upload.

The highest I've ever seen is 25 Mbps download.

That's way too low. Try a different server, also make sure none of your widgets or apps are pulling bandwidth.
It's hard in NYC to even see a Verizon repeater, let alone the tower.

I used to consistently get 20+ down and 8+ up about 2 months ago. Now I barely 10 down and 3 up. Still pretty good but I'm a little disappointed that the speed has dropped off so quickly. I'm in the Twin Cities area.

I am from Fargo, ND. When I came down to the Twin Cities to watch some Twins games, shop, etc. I was BLOWN AWAY with how fast of speeds I was getting!! I was pulling 22 down consistently. Its a bummer that your speeds are already so low down there! I can't wait for Fargo to get 4G, only 1 more month. Tops

Did some more testing today, and also ordered extended battery with cover for $37 and can't wait to see if the RF performance will increase or decrease with a bigger battery. Hope there will be no interference of any kind.
Here is today's tests:
