Did your Xoom.....

Have plastic around the box when you picked it up? Mine did not have any plastic covering the box which seemed weird considering its a two piece box.

No to my knpwledge they weren't made with any tape or plastic to keep it enclosed I like it better withoutt it anyways

Mine (bought from Costco) didn't have any wrapping around the box halves either- the line they told me was so "they could validate the MEID on the box with that on the device". (I didn't bother to ask if that ever happens where it's different, though.)

It was otherwise unmolsted (all plastic was on the device, all the accessories still sealed) so I didn't complain.

The Verizon store I bought mine had plastic wrap around each one. The guy brought out three Xooms and let me choose. All three had a plastic around the box. it was a loose type of plastic though, not shrink wrapped, so I wouldn't be surprised if most stores just removed it.

Mine din't have wrap on it either. I asked the BB sales person if he was sure the device I was getting was NEW, and he went back to look at the others he had in the cabinet, came back and told me that ALL of them were the same way (no wrap around the box).

lol the one i picked up at bby had plastic on it. all 8 of them had plastic on it.

did you guys see where they got the xoom from in the store? i looked right up in that metal case as they took one out. all of them had plastic still around the boxes. he only took the plastic off in front of me to scan the codes on the side of the box.. he never opened the box...

is there an issue with the fact none of you saw plastic on the box? im confused.. ( i sometimes am... :) )

You know what I think, I think everyone who didn't have plastic on their Xoom box must have got units that had been opened up and passed around for all the employees to play with...probably dropped it 5 times, and sneezed on it too. They got tainted Xooms.;):D

air force, you may be onto something there bro... they probably took the plastic off the first pre order xooms.. which is probably most of the cats here.. and they looked at it.. ooooo'ed and awwweee'ed at it, toss it up in the air to see how fast it flys, etc.. yeah they gave it a good once over before they picked up their first ones... :D

Well I myself only cared about it because I wanted to make sure it was new.

mine had plastic but I got it at Costco. Did the best buy one come preloaded with the Best Buy App? just a thought that they may have had to open them to load that...otherwise no clue why they'd take off the wrap.

No it didn't have the Best Buy App. They didn't appear to ever have had plastic on them from Best Buy. Mine still had all of the protective film on it and when the customer sales associate activated my Xoom, it seemed as if it was the 1st time it had been on.

Mine didn't have any kind of wrapper but it still had all the protective plastic on the device itself, the backing and the screen and all. What I want to know is did any one elses have fingerprints all over the plastic on the screen? The guy at best buy said he opened up all the boxes when they came in (the store I got mine at only received 7 of them) to make sure they were in good shape and no cracked screens or anything like that and said that all 7 of them had fingerprints on them. Said something like it must have been a post production change, something like a software update or he said it might have been to downgrade flash until 10.2 come out. I don't know about all that and although it works just fine it still got under my skin that some one else had touched my device. When he turned it on though it seemed as though it was for the first time asking me to activate it and all so who knows.

Got mine at Best Buy. No plastic. I was concerned at first but it seems most came that way. Not sure if it has anything to do with them 'enabling the WiFi' as they claim to only do if you get at least a month of data service. I did not get any data service though and my WiFi worked fine.

They come in a box of five and have super loose "dust cover" bags that were supposed to be removed before given to customers.

I work for a national Verizon retailer, as an inventory manager for a region of stores... which means I personally ordered the Xoom tablets and received them straight off the FedEx truck. None of them were shrink-wrapped. I think those of you who got them with shrink wrap from Best Buy (or other retailers) means that the retailers put on the wrap themselves.

The individual items in the box were wrapped with plastic dust covers.

In fact, most of the phones/etc we receive do not have shrink wrap. We put on little foil stickers over the opening of all our boxes when we receive them to prevent reps from opening up and playing with devices, though I think it's a decision we made locally, not a company-wide policy. It's probably similar to what BB and others are doing with their shrink wrap.

yep, the box with the xoom i purchased was shrink wrapped. all of the 8 boxes they had were. perhaps best buy's warehousing hub have a machine to do this..
