Root Did Z4 Root work for you after 2.3.340 ?

Z4 will not work for me and I was rooted pre updated through the sdk using the DO ROOT method I did not un root before the update. I have done 2 data resets on my phone since the update and run Z4 more times than I can remember it only runs for about 30 seconds to 1 minute and then it says rebooting on the screen and after the reboot I do not have root access. I am starting to notice that the Z4 is only working on phones that were rooted with it before the update or that were not rooted at all before the update.

Did Z4 work for you after the update and if so was your phone rooted before the update and which method did you use before the update?

This is not bashing of Z4 root, I am just trying to gather some info to try to regain root on my X and help others in my same situation.

Z4 worked fine for me after the update. My phone was rooted via another (long and complicated) method pre-update. I didn't unroot it before updating.

Z4root did not work for me after the update. I was rooted before the update using a different method, unrooted for the update using z4.

It worked for me but not until after a I did a factory reset. Prior to that it just stayed at the "rooting" screen with the spinner going round and round.

^Z4 did take a -very- long time to complete for me...long enough that I thought it might have frozen. In the end though, it got the job done.

I've run z4 4 or 5 times. I was rooted before the update via a different method. Z4 will not give me root back

For those trying Z4Root on their DX, make sure that you are using z4root.1.1.0.apk - if you used 1.0 or 1.3.0 those versions do not work. I tried rooting first wit 1.3.0 and it failed. Then I dl'ed 1.1.0 and it worked fine. Be patient when you're using z4root - the process may take 10-15 minutes so wait until your phone reboots. Also make sure your phone is not connected to your PC.

For some reason, z4root is no longer available in the Market, but you can search for it.

Link please? I can only find link to the newer one

UPDATE: found the link, installed it and it still didn't work. only took all but a minute to run...

I rooted manually prior to the update, and didn't unroot. I did wipe the cache and did a factory reset prior to running the update.zip. Z4root worked the second time I tried it.

This information is not correct. Z4root ver 1.3.0 does work for some people. It worked for me and took all of 15 seconds

I SBF'ed back to 2.3.15, installed the update, installed z4root, pressed perm root and it was done in 15 seconds

it may not work for everyone, but it worked perfectly for me

Z4root 1.3 worked for me, but it took nearly two hours. I had my phone on my desk at work so I could keep an eye on it. I had used another method to root my phone prior to the update.

It worked for me, did the OTA update and checked after it rebooted. SU still showed in the apps, but the apps that required root didn't work.

I shut the phone off, did a battery pull, started it up and the root worked on the first try. FYI, Z4 still showed me as being rooted after the OTA update. I just chose to perm root again, now everything's working fine.

When i initially rooted, Z4 would just sit and spin forever. The battery pull is what got me rooted in the first place, dunno if it matters or not.

this should probably be moved to "all things root"

i just updated ota a few minutes ago. I was rooted via Z4 prior. I haven't tried re rooting yet but i did lose root through the update.

It worked for me. But I had to SBF 2.3.15 first after bricking my phone trying to install the 340 update. SBF'd, updated then ran Z4 on a clean 340 install. However, the first time it appeared to "hang" like a lot of people are indicating. I read somewhere on the internet that if it does that, just interrupt it, pull the battery and do it again and it would complete in a few seconds. Sure enough, it did.

Worked for me! Used z4 root before the update. Updated my phone and lost root. SU was still on my phone but no permissions to my root apps. Rerooted with z4 and took a few minutes to reroot and everything was fast and easy. Used version 1.3 also.

It worked for my just fine. Ran it, it rebooted -- it did stick in the droid eye for about four minutes -- but then continued and all was good!
