Different price depending on zip code

Go to the AT&T Wireless site and enter zip code 10001 and magically watch the price of the Vivid drop $100. I have read several people paid this price for the phone.

Any one know the deal on why? If you live in a place where the phone is $99.99 can you let us know the zip code.

Thanks
Ed

As I understand it certain areas in the country do have a reduced price for marketing reasons.

Thanks - I guess those marketing reasons are enough to keep me away. Pretty much see this as a ripoff of customers. On the positive side I hear Verizon is going to offer a double the data promotion. This may be enough to get me to switch. We have Verizon LTE in our area, but AT&T is still stuck on 3G (standard). Since they have made not statements about upgrades I guess we will be a back water for several years.

I guess it is good AT&T did this, gave me enough pause to look at some different options.

3G? you must be in a dead zone, I get hspa+ at my house and I get anywhere from 2-5mb down, but hey if you need to leave go ahead, I have unlimited with ATT, I am sure ATT will do something similar to counter verizon.

I picked up this phone for 99 bucks here in norther california, I went in to exchange my galaxy s2 thinking it would be an even exchange but when she told me that she owes me 100.91 dollars I was like ok, I will take that anyday, lol. This phone is giving me way better hspa+ speeds than the GS2 and I guess samsung is using crappy radio in their original galaxy s2.

In the city I hit constant 4-5mb's but with the GS2 I never went above 3.

I think in the non-lte markets the phone is going cheaper than it is in the LTE market.

I've heard reports of people calling AT&T and complaining about how it's a terrible business practice, being very disappointed, generally questioning such a douche-bag decision, and then being given either a $50 or $100 dollar credit to their bill. I'm considering this, because I'm honestly pretty frustrated that, simply based on geographic location, you get a $100 discount. After some hassles with a local store manager when attempting to exchange the first one I got for an obvious issue, I've got quite a bit of beef already...

I wasn't too disappointed.I picked the phone up at wal-mart on Black friday for $198.00 and got a $100.00 gift card for purchasing a smartphone.I thought that was a great deal and im very happy with this phone after coming from the HTC Aria i've used for the past 3 years.

Wow Amazon had all the phones for .01 last week "new contract". I'm have the vivid and the SkyRocket on order. Cost me .02 :)

This deal was not for existing contract holders. This was only if i added a new line to our family plan.Trust me i checked on the amazon deal.
I was due for an upgrade but the rest of the members of my family was still on the same plan/contract.If that makes sense.Needless to say it would not give me the $.01 deal.
