Help Digitizer Removal

Thanks to all the help I've been getting off of this forum, i swear I'll make a thread for those my fellow Spiritians who have similar plights with insights on how to completely disassemble (and more importantly, reassemble) the phone. I'll even start it as soon as I get my replacement LCD in a couple days, with pictures and everything!

Anyways, before all that, does anyone know how to remove the digitizer from the motherboard? The ribbon reaches from the front of the phone, through a hole (which looks like a connection to the headphone jack) and to it's plug. The problem is, the connecter is bigger than the hole is has to fit through. I can't just sever the ribbon because... well, that's stupid. Any ideas?

I went to the YouTuber to look for you but unfortunately I'm not so familiar with other LG phones that are similar to the Spirit.

I would suggest you figure THAT out then go look there for screen/digitizer replacement vids yourself. There are Bunches of them. Look for the ones that are more than 5 min long. (Those are like the car manuals that start with, "First, remove the engine.")

One that I did see where the plug for the digitizer was being removed, it was rotated to the position where it Wasn't larger than the slot it went thru and Then out thru the slot if that helps.

Thanks Bruce :D I've been looking for anything that has to do with swapping the LCD and/or digitizer and I can't find anything, so I've pretty much gone through several similar phones' disassembly process to see if any of them had anything in common. I'll try out the twisting method once I get home, I'll throw the pictures on here too!

the digitizer is glued to the led/display. Easiest way to remove it is once you have the phone disassembled, take the display half of the case and put it in the over for a few minute to heat the glue up, and then you should be able to use a toothpick etc to push it loose from one or more of the lil holes from the inner side. Be careful with the ribbon cable(s) they are easily broken off if not careful with them. Then just apply some glue ( I used super glue) very sparingly and install the new digitizer and let dry.

Also be careful not to get dust/dirt or fingerprints on the backside of the digitizer. ;)

Woah, PG! When did you get the Spirit?? I remember blasting my Esteem with all of your roms :D Anyways, the glue and oven trick is pretty useful, I bought a shattered spirit off ebay and removed the led (which is what I'm trying to replace) by basically leaving the it for scrap. I'm not willing to do that to my phone, but I'll try warming it up before the swap. Thanks!

I dont have one yet, one is one its way tho. ;)

In my experience the process has been similar with each device I've had to replace the digitizer on. And yea I've only done it on dev devices thus far. lol
