Um thanks, but I already bought a new avidI cannot tell what step you're at.
If you have not yet watched the rather poor vid on youtube on how to disassemble a Avid then do that. The vid is hilarious. IDK what kind of drugs the guy is on but he sure has a collection of pill bottles in what is likely the worst vid of this kind ever made.
The vid stops before it shows you how to remove the screen.
Also do not bother with trying to remove the entire white sticker under the battery, just cut the sticker along the bottom of the two large silver colored metal flaps. You can see the top of these flaps when you take the battery out. The vid shows the flaps uncovered.
To remove the screen you have to pry the glass from the frame. The glass comes out the front.
Clean off all the tape on every surface on the frame.
Get new two sided sticky tape, place the tape on the frame, in every spot that used to have tape.
slide the ribbon cable back through the opening in the top of the frame, then press the new glass into the frame.
You need two sided tape to affix the part of the ribbon cable with the small pcb on it to the phones circuit board. This is placed just above the camera.
while placing the ribbon cable in that spot you have to slide the end which should be on your left when looking at the phone from the back, the end with the connectors.
Slide that under a light brown colored tab the is underneath the pcb to the left of the camera.
There should be a line on the ribbon cable, get the line even and as close to the top of the light brown tab as possible.
What I found is this connection sucks and is likely the main reason most people hate this phone.
To make mine work better I cut off the ribbon cable from the broken glass, the end with the connectors, as close as possible to the part of the cable with the PCB on it.
I then inverted this connector so the insulating side faces the new cable. I slid this cable section above the light brown flap. I then used what I call booger glue and forced it between these two cables.
My reasoning for doing this is to keep the new cable forced onto the connectors. The manufacturers design of not having some kind of positive locking mechanism, past double sided sticky tape is idiotic.
I figured the glue, which I crammed between the cables with a small screw driver would add force to the top of the new connector and keep it connected.
So far my phone has worked better than ever. That was until I knocked it off a table into a cup with just enough water in it to get the power button good and soaked. Now the phone does not turn off, or on, but at least it's stuck in the on position, so I can either take out the battery or plug in a charger it wakes up. Hopefully I 'll figure out how to fix this and then ride this phone till it disintegrates.
pcb, PCB = printed circuit board. - I also use it in this description to mean printed circuit.
booger glue - that glue you get on the back of credit cards, or glue dots, that stick to your finger like a booger you can't flick off.
