Dilemma: Dinc2 vs Vigor

Firstly I'd like to say hi, I am new to the fourms (found them while researching which phone I was planning to upgrade too).

So now for the important part, I have been looking around for a while now for a new phone (Upgrading from a PoS samsung rouge) and I came to the conclusion that I was going to get the HTC Droid Incredible 2, until that is I found out a few things. I found out that you weren't able to get any skins from the HTCsense.com website due to verizon blocking it and also that it wouldn't be updated to sense 3.0. I know that you can get sense 3.0 through rooting your phone and what not but I'm not sure if the risk is worth the reward (afraid of doing the rooting wrong and bricking my phone and also not sure if I would be able to understand everything that came with rooting like what mods did what and what not)

Moving on from that I began to see small things pop up about the HTC Vigor. I was wondering if you guys believe it would be best to upgrade right away to the Dinc2 or wait it out for the Vigor, this is based on the assumption that the Vigor will be given Sense 3.0 and possible HTCsense.com support.

The Droid Incredible 2 is the exact same phone as the HTC Incredible S so you can get the skins for that phone and use them for your Incredible 2.

As far as rooting goes, rooting your phone is basically giving yourself superuser access.

(after doing some research I found some good definitions of the 'mods')

You have kernels and roms:
Kernels are software code that allows CPU overclocking and voltage controls. Think of it like BIOS settings on your computer (PC, that is)..that's really all they do.

The ROM is basically everything else but the apps. It's actually the OS, as well as any stock apps that come with it - and any new improvements, features, etc. The increasing build numbers reflect bug fixes, known issue solutions, feature improvements, etc...thing of them like windows service packs and/or any software update.

rooting honestly isn't that hard though, and if you are able to follow the directions you should be good. I rooted my old HTC Incredible 1 and flashed a couple of different roms (didn't mess with kernels) and everything worked out fine.

Don't let sense 3.0 be your buying point on a new phone, the Incredible 2 is a great phone and I highly recommend it. (I haven't rooted mine yet but with a simple launcher pro and some different widgets, you can customize it a ton)

Masamune did a good job discussing root, there are also many threads in the all things root page. Do keep in mind though, at this time there is no way to root a DInc2 running Gingerbread. This SHOULD change, but there are no guarantees.
