DINC2 or Droid 2 Global

Lurker
My Droid 2 Global crapped out and I just received a brand new one for $89 through Asurion insurance. I've been playing with a DINC2 and it seems like a pretty sweet phone, not to mention it being global which is what I need.

Do you think it's worth the upgrade to the DINC2 and selling the Droid 2 Global on eBay? The D2Global is amazing with rooted Fission ROM, and I worry we may not see root and custom ROMs on the DINC2 soon, if ever.

What are your thoughts?

I imagine that the DInc2 will be rooted. How soon? I don't know...it depends on how locked down HTC and VZW made it. No doubt, people are working on it.

My thoughts (and opinions, not facts) are that Sense > Blur any day. Add the guts of the DInc2 and a pretty decent battery life for an HTC phone (easily 18 hours so far on mine) and you've got a winner. If you have the opportunity to upgrade, I'd take it.

However, here are reasons not to upgrade (only if they apply to you):
- Locking into a new 24 month contract, with no early upgrade
- You want 4G on your next upgrade
- You are waiting for a particular phone
- If you don't have an upgrade available, I'm not sure the trade-in value of the Droid 2 Global and buying full retail is completely worth it (but this comes from a guy who would never buy full retail)

That's my take on it. DInc 2 is a great phone, but you should only get it if that's what you want, since you'll be locked into a long contract (in smartphone time, lol) after this decision

plus rumor has it that the Droid 3 will be out this summer and it _might_ have LTE and Global.

I, too, need a global phone. If I had to buy today, I'd get the Inc2. But I'm gonna hold off until I have to make my first trip outside the US and hope something "better" might come along.

There won't be LTE on the Droid 3. Global, yes. But just 3G. It is rumored to be coming out by the end of June though with a dual core processor, 4" qHD screen, front facing camera, 5 row qwerty keyboard, and an improved rear camera.

Don't worry about the Incredible 2 being rooted. It will be. And the bootloader will be cracked in time for roms. It's just locked, not encrypted like with Motorola phones.

AMTrombley0924 makes several great points (with a big one being the batter - you're likely to see better battery life on the Incredible 2). Another thing to consider is your preference for a physical keyboard vs. a virtual keyboard. That's huge for a lot of people. The off-contract price for the Incredible 2 is very reasonable, so if your Droid 2 Global really is brand new, you should be able to sell it on eBay and pay for nearly all of the Incredible 2 off contract if you wanted to.

they are already attempting to port DINC2 dumps onto the Tbolt since it has a newer version of sense. I can say with nearly 100% certainty the DINC2 will have plenty of ROMs and support in no time. This has never been an issue with popular HTC phones (and even many not so popular).
