directions *from another address*

So I was curious how long it would take my friend to get from the town she lives in to my favorite restaurant ever. I pull up the restaurant on Android G-maps, and hit the directions button. My choices are driving directions, walking directions, or turn by turn directions list. Which are good and all, but they're all FROM HERE. I'd like to be able to hit the directions button, and the new fourth option says "directions from."
Anybody else with me? Figured I'd try the forums first before making it a feature request, as it might be a one-off use case that no one else would find useful, thus, not worth it.

What device are you using?

With the EVO 4G you do the following:

  1. Menu
  2. Directions
  3. Hit the back button on the first text box where it says My Location
  4. Hit the starting point box (the icon to right of where it says My Location). Then manually type in the address, choose a contact or choose a point on the map. In your situation, you would choose your friends contact, since her home address would be there.
  5. In the bottom text type nothing. Click the icon to the right of the bottom text box and select "my current location".
  6. Then choose driving, public transportation, biking or walking.
  7. Hit go

In the latest version of Google Maps you change the starting point once you've pulled up directions (not navigation). Actually, the steps above describe the process.

I see now what I was thinking: when you search Maps for a spot and it shows up as a red lettered bubble, you can click the popup bubble for the place details page. (Share this place, What's here, Search nearby, etc.) I was choosing the right-turn arrow to get directions, and then my only option that I can find is from my current location. It might be kinda nice to have the ability to pick where from if you get to it this way, methinks. Before I even open a new issue, does anyone else agree? Just seems kinda odd to have functionality that you can *only* get to if you take this particular sequence of steps, when there is another sequence that makes sense also... well shucks, I'll just open the issue & folks can vote for it or not-- issue #16714.
Issue 16714 - android - Maps/Navigation: choose a different starting address - Android - An Open Handset Alliance Project - Google Project Hosting

Hi!

Considering this is a software question, I thought it would do better in the apps section. ty!

Odd. I still have the option to change the starting point even if I use this approach. Again, are you selecting navigation or directions after you click on the right turn arrow? I'm choosing directions. It wouldn't make sense to navigate from a different location.

Which version of Maps are you running?

OH, well I'll be. That is exactly what I was looking for. You can change your starting address if you choose Get directions instead of one of the Navigations. Huh, good call, I just closed my feature request.
