I too want to disable the charging circuit on my Droid X, I am not worried about the battery but the USB port I want to use on a one off (or extremely limited) USB adaptor that is not a high powered port as in my laptop. This one provides just enough power to fire up a USB stick and transfer a file to it I think it only provides less than 50ma. I am afraid that if I cannot turn off the charging circuit before connecting I will damage the adaptor.
