Help Disable scary CMAS sound?

I live in Flushing, NYC. There appears to be a blizzard storm heading to NYC tomorrow. I keep getting CMAS alerts and the sound really scares me.

Open the messaging app. Tap on settings. Scroll Down to CMAS alerts. Tap on CMAS Settings. Uncheck all the boxes. That should stop any more messages from coming in. There's also a setting for Alert reminder. If you keep getting reminders of the alert you can click on that and turn it off. As a matter of fact if all you need to do is stop the Alert reminder from well... reminding you all the time you can tap on Once and only get the scary sound when an alert comes in.

I'm in Boston Ma. We're scheduled to get two feet of snow plus abnormally high tides that could result in coastal flooding.

Does the CMAS sound go off when your phone is on silent?

I'm not sure. This is the first time I got one. When I checked my settings it was only set for alert reminders Once so it hasn't gone off again. Maybe you're getting them more because of that whole Hurricane Sandy thing. The state government probably wants to be plenty sure everybody in New York knows what's coming.
