disable search icon

Is there any way to disable the search icon at the bottom of the phone ?

I do not really need this button, and i keep pressing it all the time.

for what it's worth, 'Button shortcut' in the market will let you re-map the long press of the search key. It worked on my phone (rooted, but it didn't seem to need SU).

I installed the android SDK, I'll take a look and see if I can make it happen with ADB.

i thought about this, but i wondered if it would take away the google search feature.

i pulled the above from when i was uninstallin the sprint crap. i wonder which one it is for the magnifying glass button.

Any way to disable it without rooting? I hated that button on the Droid and I hate more on the EVO. I am sure people use it, but I sure have not met any. The most annoying feature as far as I am concerned.
