Help Disable the Vibrant Search Button?

Lurker
Hi all. I'm new to the forum but not new to Android devices. I recently got a Vibrant running 2.1 and shortly after noticed a problem with the search button. It randomly triggers even when I'm not touching the device. Occasionally it will trigger several times in a row without me holding the phone. I've kept it clean, I tried a screen protector and a case. Like I sati, it triggers even when nothing is touching the phone, so long as the screen is active.

I recently upgraded to 2.2 hoping it would clear up or give me an option to change what the buttons control but to no avail.

So, is there a way to disable that button or adjust sensitivity/calibration? Can i reassign the button to do nothing - i dont use the search for anything in any case. Am I just screwed?

20 days and not a single response from another person. No response of any kind.

Why bother with a troubleshooting forum at all? What is the bloody point?
