Root disabling an app

I am pretty new to Android. I have a Huawei Ascend. Is there a way to disable bloatware without rooting the phone? i tried rooting with z4root and it didnt work correctly (luckily my phone still works just fine). it lags a bit and i dont use most of what came on the phone. also, if i absolutely have to root the phone, what is the easiest way for a newbie? thank you in advance!! :D

You can disable apps if you root. Maybe someone can help you with the root process here.

P.S. Moved to Ascend section.

Did you turn on USB Debugging? Easy step to miss. Try this too.

Debugging was on. Did everything i was told to do. (using z4root). it just didnt work. i'm decently good with computers, and toying with my blackberry and iphone were a breeze. im not sure why im having issues with android.

i am trying the directions you linked for me. hopefully this works. i really want alot of the crap off this phone. too much lagging. and i know i will never use mocospace and all that other crap. not really sure why they put so much on there.

I have this app called Android Assistant. It does not show in my superuser, So it's not root required. You can use this app to set what apps you want to start up, Plus you can stop it like you would if you were using a task killer. It's also got a battery saver and cache cleaner. It monitors the CPU info, Memory info, and Battery info. You can also use it's file manager as well. This is a free program from the market. ^^.

ok i just downloaded and ran z4root. there is no "re-root" but there is temp/perm root and un-root. does that mean its done???

ok, i figured it all out. next up, what other things can i do to really personalize my phone. and since z4root was put onto my 2gb memory card, if i remove that to put my 4gb back in, will it hurt the phone at all?

oh, and also, i downloaded Dock4Droid and want to use that instead of the stock dock app that my Ascend came with. how do i get rid of the stock one?

Ill probably come up with more stuff i want to do as the day goes on, so i will apologize before hand for alot of questions. :)

To customize your phone you can download a different Launcher such as Launcher Pro or Go Launcher.

i had launcher pro before rooting, but deleted it. is it better after rooting? it lagged really bad pre-root.
Rooting generally only means you have complete control over your phone. It will not speed it up unless you remove/freeze some of the bloatware. It's really about the memory usage. If you can, Try that app I mentioned above so you can monitor how much of your memory is being used. The more free, The faster the phone I've found. ^^. I'm on Icarus though, So my phone works a little faster/efficiently.

stupid question probably... what is Icarus?

Z4 root does not remove the bloatware. It gives access so download titanium backup and remove it from there.

Icarus is a custom MOD that you can install in place of the stock installation from the carrier. It has a lot of unnecessary apps removed, and is vastly optimized VS the stock installation, has far more free memory, runs significantly faster, and also allows you to install apps to the SD card instead of internal phone memory, since Android 2.1 does not have the ability to do so.

I've been running Icarus since January, and I can say first hand that it's a ton better than stock.

This explains what modifications have been done, and all the necessary instructions needed to install it. It's a bit of work, but I can promise you it is very much worth doing, if you're so inclined.

awesome. i will had to give this a shot when i got home from work tonight. the option to save apps to sd is enough by itself to make me want to change to icarus.
