Root Disabling Audible Gmail Notifications in CM7

I want audible notifications for texts but not for e-mails...

I use the CM7 e-mail program for work e-mail, and I was able to turn the audible notifications in that program, by I can't figure-out how to turn them off in Gmail...

I want to see the received e-mail icon in the tray, bu I don't want to hear any tones...

I think you can edit it within the gmail app, go to settings and choose the account. IIRC it is a setting at the very bottom of the screen.

No...it gives you the option to turn tray notifications on and off...but there isn't an opting to turn off the sound...

The sond was turned off before I reinstalled cm7 today...

I usually turn the notification sound to silent in settings->sounds->notification sounds. That'll take care of your gmail making sounds.

Then in the messaging app go into settings and change the notification sound to anything other than default or silent.

Works for me, hopefully that'll get you what you want as well.
