Disaster

Hi. I have an Yarvik ICS Go Tb Zetta TAB466EUK.

Without warning or apparent reason, after it had recharged I turned it on to discover that the screen is black. Well, kind of. I can see what is there, JUST, but there is no light. I can only see my homescreen because the back ground is white, system screens are black therefore un-viewable.

Does anyone have any ideas of what I can do? Kinda in despair here.

Thanks Lux.

Hello there luxwild.

I did a search and found this on a different site. Screen Dark [Archive] - Yarvik Support Forum

It was advised to do a hard reset but it did not help in this case. He didn't say if it totally wiped his system either.

Hope you get it straight. Please let us know if you find a solution!

I'd concur with this, try a hard reset, and if that doesn't work, return it as defective as more than likely the back-light has failed.

Hi guys. Thanks so much for responses. Can I ask a follow up?

Read the archive mentioned above and that says one must read the manual to do an hard reset. Sadly, the manual and how to do this is ON the tablet- which I cannot read because it is dark. Typical.

Is a hard reset the same as a factory reset? I ask because there is a pin-hole in th rear of the machine that is named factory reset. Would this alter any problem or simply wipe the software?

Dont mind losing the data (well, I do but I'm resigned!) but was a gift only six months ago but no receipt and the purchaser has since passed away so stuck and increasingly desperate.

If you connect it via USB to your PC, can you access your data to back it up BEFORE trying a hard reset?

Great!

But: when I connect to laptop (windows vista/Toshiba Equium), I assume I put in <slave> port in tablet?

Problem is then I have no idea what to do.

Once plugged in the laptop shows TWO new items= "Removable Disk D:" and "Removable Disk E:". If I click on either of them all it says is "insert a disk". If I right click it offers more options, most asking to enter a disk again. If I try to open a poertable device it opens a window but with nothing there.

All I'm doing is getting myself in a muddle. I think this is all beyond me.

Any ideas?

Tried to go to Maplins today as their website says they sell Yarvik but my local shop said didn't and wouldn't help anyway as didn't buy from them- unhelpful so and sos.

also... Holding the tablet up in very bright light I can see there is the android character on screen but because the rest of the screen has a black background I have no idea what it is saying.

Maplin won't be interested if you never bought it from them. Where did you buy it? Try contacting Yarvik directly, it's their product which is defective...

The Yarviks are cheapo budget devices, it more than likely is a duff back-light because of poor quality. Nothing you can do about it, except return it for refund or replacement.
