Discounts!

Since our upgrade date is 12/27 we are going to miss this by two days. :(

Call *611 and speak with Customer Care.
Politely ask if they can move your upgrade date up to say the 15th.
Tell them that's the day you have off and would like to come in and do some good old fashioned business.
If you don't get your upgrade date pushed forward on the first call,
KEEEP calling back, until you get someone who will help you out.
You are sooo close to your upgrade date, its not even funny.
Don't take no for an answer. ;)

I just called customer service about upgrading my OG Droid. I told them about the 3G to 4G discount. They told me NO on the $100 discount. I explained that there are 3 phones on the account at ~$200 per month ($4,800) over the course of 2 years.

I explained to the **** that I can switch to AT&T and still be about what one phone is on an upgrade. Her response: oh well.

I work in a company that makes 10x of what VZW makes. If any of my managers or Execs heard me tell a customer that I do not care about $5,000 in revenue, I would be fired on the spot. So much for customer appreciation. I have been with them for 12 years now.

I will be calling customer retention later today and explain that I will cancel all 3 phones and get 3 new ones on AT&T. I would take about a $300 loss personally, but VZW taking a $4,500 loss is even more crazy.

if you dotn qualify, you dont quality, stop tryign to cheat the system.

Not trying to cheat the system. I am looking for customer loyalty. If a new customer can get a phone at the same price as existing customers, then there is ZERO loyalty. Easier to take my money else where.

I will discuss with the Corp rep at my local VZW store at lunch. He is smarter than the bonehead making $7.25 an hour on the phone. They can crunch numbers in their head quickly. $4,800 for a $100 discount (2% discount). Its a no brainer.

And you are being anything but a loyal customer by threatening taking your ball home.
I don't think loyalty means what you think it means.

After staying with any provider for 12 years, I would say that's the definition of loyalty. I agree with him too; that he should be entitled to any sort of reward that differentiates him from new customers coming in for their first contract. I understand that this doesn't initially make business sense since new contracts/customers are more enticing to Verizon since that's a whole new addition to their existing income, but when you factor in that this guy is spending $4500+/year for your service, giving him a small break the equipment charge upon signing a new contract is the least they can do to keep his business.

I understand that new contracts apparently matter more to Verizon, but I don't understand why they would be willing to give up a $200+/month account over giving them a small discount on a new phone.

You're willing to pay $300 cuz they won't let you save $100? It sounds to me that money isn't exactly the issue here. So why do you want to make this a bigger deal than what it is? It's not like they are cheating you out of something they are obligated to give you, the discount isn't an obligation. As long as your service (and customer service related to that service) is on point, then I can't exactly side with you.

Don't take me wrong, I think it sucks that you aren't getting the discount, I'd call back and see if maybe the next associate will help you. However, it sounds that you may be a bit upset, so I'd say be nice, ask the CSR how his/her day is going (so don't just answer "I'm fine" when they ask you, ask back) and see if you ask nicely if it works. Like you said, that person likely makes $7.25/hour, so you being rude and angry with them won't encourage them to work in your favor. Just my thoughts! :)

He's explaining to another party what he expects from them if they want to keep his business. If they don't reach an agreement, he is going to take his business elsewhere. Two consenting parties doing business... that's the basis of capitalism.

I do this with Sirius every so often when I'm not using the service as much (but still like to have it). I'll call to cancel and be offered 70% off for six months. I know that the offer is coming and plan on accepting it, but that's what is required of them if they want to keep me as a customer. That's not cheating the system, that's renegotiating.

I know quite clearly what he was saying. Loyalty isn't "go the extra mile for me even though you are not obligated to, or I am storming off in a huff".
Loyalty ≠ Petulance.

Your "loyalty" is rewarded approximately every 2 years with a steep discount on a new phone.

I got mine in the mail today. I don't live in a 4G market and all mine said was a $30 loyalty discount. Nothing about upgrading to a 4G device.... Guess there's no way I can get the $100 off :(

I completely disagree. To some loyalty might be meeting contractual obligations, to others it would be going out of the way to show appreciation. I've been a VZW customer for over 8 years and I feel like they've been extremely loyal to me, in that they've made reasonable exceptions to help me out when I requested it of them. I show my loyalty by not only staying with them, but being vocal to potential customers regarding my appreciation.

Loyalty without justification is simply blind acceptance.

Wtf, we also got a $30 off any phone coupon instead of the $100. But it says it's for my wife's line, which we upgraded a month ago. We even live in a 4g market.

I must say, I disagree. Your loyalty is not rewarded with a steep discount on a new phone. It's your business that is rewarded with that "discount" on a new phone. If you don't sign the contract and pay the subsidy over the course of the next 24 months your loyalty is not rewarded at all.
For someone who has been with the same company for 12 years, there should be some "loyalty" that is not the same as to a customer signing their first new contract.

for y'all that don't want to wade through the enormous "pre-release" thread, several people have had success getting some kind of $100 promo "notated" on their account, some have said simply that... that it's been notated or have been given a "hot note." Some have said it will be a rebate, some have said it will be a point of sale discount, some have said they will receive a credit if a 4G phone is activated on their line in a certain number of days. Most have been told that they have until the end of the month. Some have been told that it also allows them to upgrade, early without paying the usual $20 ... some have been flat-out turned down.

Tactics to get this "notation" have included: trying multiple times, asking for "sales," asking for "loyalty," mentioning that you're going to upgrade to a 4G phone soon, mentioning "3G to 4G," asking if there are any discounts available, mentioning that you saw a flier, mentioning that your friend got a flier, mentioning midwest region, not mentioning midwest at all, mentioning the code CH4GE, not mentioning any codes, mentioning the "doorways" section, being smooooth, etc.

The general feeling, from the mods, since this is not a site that supports retail anarchy (even though I do) was to just be honest and call up and see if you qualify... as you may have noticed from my posts and scans on the 6th, in this thread, I got a flier that seems to indicate that I'll be able to use both my NE2/Loyalty discount and this $100 ... hopefully the CH4GE doesn't lock anyone out of their ability to stack them, mine has the code CH4GNE2 on it, FWIW, as well as HOL1211-CHI, printed right underneath.

Moving from AT&T to VZ once this drops, and just spoke to a CSR who said I'm not eligible for the $100 off (Philadelphia area) :(

However I am eligible for a possible $50 discount on 4g smartphones, but the CSR wouldn't tell me if the Nexus will even have that as an offer

I was also refused the 3g to 4g promo even though I live in the midwest and I'm upgrading to a 4g phone. The manager I spoke with refused to give me an answer as to what the qualifications are and said there was no one else I could speak with to get an answer... He also claimed that they can not manually add the promotion.

I swear I have problems with this damn company every time I try to upgrade. I have been a customer since before they were Verizon and I don't think I have ever gotten any kind of promotion or deal. Really thinking about jumping ship if I don't hear back from them by Thursday.

Spoke to a very friendly CSR a little while ago. She looked around in multiple places and spoke to folks in other areas a couple of times. She found the Chicago promo, but was unable to give it it to me, since I'm nowhere close to the Midwest. I'll probably try again later, but no dice for now. :(

Right, and the corp rep likely thought...

"Should I give this guy a "2%" discount or stick with the 98% chance that he'll buy the phone anyway, regardless of whether or not he gets $100 off?"

I doubt the employee cared if he got the phone in the first place. I'm sure his thought process was more like "I don't feel like asking my manager to cut this guy a break".

Just got off the phone with CS they told me that the promo is for Chicago and South suburbs. She said that she spoke to the promotions department. I couldn't get it, but but I'm gonna keep trying. Also she said she couldn't bump my upgrade date up a week. So I'm calling back lol.

is there any discount I can get by adding a new line to a family plan? im in an area where 4g is supposed to come on the 15th (NY).

What number did you call? I called and I got a robot.

So, if you're in the Midwest, Verizon is offering a $100 3G to 4G discount. If you don't have a 4G phone now, this would be a great opportunity to use it on your GNex.

I also asked to move my Loyalty (NE2) discount up since it's on 12/29, and the rep said he'd leave a note and that the store should give me no hassle since it's 2 weeks away.

Now, if I am getting both discounts, I'm looking to save $130 on my GNez, so maybe it will only be $170! And if they ever do release it for $199 maybe it will be $30! Haha, I know, that last one is a dream, but still, $170 instead of $300 is a nice figure, eh?
