Loyalty qualifications (from what i just heard from a verizon rep)- since there r no NE2 anymore for "primary lines" they gave this $50 discount for a 1x deal as a thank you. So yes only people that r the primary lines and have not upgraded since NE2 went away should have that extra discount. Its nontransferable between phones

That explains it for me. My wife is the primary account in order to get her company discount. But one of the links I posted claimed the pricing would be $169.99 + $30 for upgrades. I guess they were wrong. What bullcrap instituting an upgrade fee.

So how many people are going to Jump on the Droid Razr Maxx "RIGHT NOW" with this horrible news from Verizon?? Maybe making the upgrade RIGHT NOW will slip you in ahead of the change.

This is HUGE! If this is the case, and Sprint still offers their unlimited plan. Verizon will lose alot of people including me.[on my next upgrade] Had to upgrade to the Maxx last week, my droid X finally quit on me. I was thinking about sending it back and waiting on the S3 or Maxx HD, wonder when this will take effect.:afraid:

I'm not jumping because I have 4 lines so once one upgrades they are all gone, and not all are eligible to upgrade

I would almost be willing to bet - if Verizon does this - SPRINT will do it within 24 months. So - do I stay with VZW and get the Maxx (when I want the Fighter), do I wait for the Fighter, or, do I jump ship. . . .

Stupid question - could you buy a phone at full price, and swap phone numbers with an existing line that has unlimited data?

not a bad question. This though has got me to jump ship and def get the maxx and erase the doubt of waiting. perhaps thats their plan? get more people to jump on the maxx even more, and then release the fighter/hd knowing people can't have unlimited with it?

Im willing to bet that they will still make you get rid of your Unlimited when your actual contract is up. It is written in their agreement that they can change pricing and plans at any time so I don't think there is anything that can really save us.

I think we are still safe with waiting. When they released the removal of unlimited data for new customers, we knew when they would do it to the day. It will probably be the same case this time.

Im not sold on jumping to Sprint due to the fact that I believe Sprint will rack up many new customers to an already not so great 4G service. Verizon 4G LTE is the best and the most widespread around the country. I also think that after Sprint has obtained the many customers leaving Verizon, they too will get rid of Unlimited Data. So you will be on a crappier 4G service with Tiered Data plans.

I am hoping that the shared Tiered Data plans for Verizon will be somewhat decent, and banking on my wife not using much data therefore leaving more for me. My wife hardly ever uses the internet and never streams music. At least I hope this works out for me.

I don't want to be suckered into get the Maxx when the phone I really want is the Razr HD. Verizon almost has a gun to our heads!

I am really considering the MAXX now, since I am due for an upgrade. Who really knows when the Fighter will be released? I don't know if I can wait until the summer.

I will not be happy if I am forced into a shared data plan.

Decisions, decisions!

I'm in the same boat. It will be interesting to see what the plans look like. A) They do need money to build out the network - that's a fact of life. B) If it's outrageously priced, hopefully, it will meet the same fate as the pay-by-phone charge (or whatever it was).

If you read the article closely, yes we will all be eventually on Shared Tiered Data, but of course the Shared Tiered Data are not available yet. BUT, reading closely, it says those currently switching from 3G to 4G phones will be switched to a Tiered plan. (guessing that means current Individual Tiered plans)

so.... I decided to go through the upgrade process right now to see if it made me switch to a new data plan. So far TODAY I can still keep my Unlimited Data Plan if switching to the Razr Maxx.

Who knows what it will do tomorrow? Guess we need an official date from Verizon. Maybe they will say June 15th will be the deadline for upgrading and not being forced to tiered plan. Wouldn't surprise me one bit. Those waiting on the S3 will be FORCED into Tiered.

I just pulled the trigger got the MAXX for $199 less a $130 discount. So that brought the phone to $69. Plus the $30 upgrade charge.

The monthly details are the same. Kept my text and unlimited data plan. It should. Be here Friday.

The article I read also mentioned voice over LTE by the end of the year. (Sorry, don't have the link.) I wonder if at some point we will have data only plans...

Today's events really make it even more difficult to continue waiting for the Fighter/RazrHD or the SG3.

I'm half tempted to go switch to Sprint and wait a few months for LTE (It's coming to my area in the first round) and get the phone I really want anyhow. The EVO 4G LTE really is the phone I would have rather had on Verizon, but it's not like Verizon is giving me any reason to stay any longer after 12 years. Meh.

Of course.... Who knows when the Evo 4G LTE will actually get released now anyhow! Double-Meh.:mad:

The unlimited data was the only thing tying me down with Verizon since they bought out Alltel. I don't have any allegiance with them other than they let me keep my terms when I renewed my contract and not surprising it's way better than any of their plans. Now it's does this happen before the G3 or Razr HD come out or after?

Personally, I'm down to just under two months and my two years are up. I looked at Att, Sprint, US cellular, and straight talk today after I heard the news. I'm seriously considering Att if this happens before the G3 or HD come out. At least if Att phones suck I can import a phone that works on their bands. Where I live Sprint would take a long time to put up LTE towers so I might as well get hspa speeds vs slow as hell Sprint cdma speeds.

I'm not going to bitch to them about how this is asinine. I'll show them with my wallet. Their bottom line hurts worse when people defect than a couple of angry words.

How did you do that?

Called 1.800.261.1694. Gave them my account information. Confirmed my unlimited data would be grandfathered in. DID NOT mention that I heard unlimited data woad going away. Confirmed that my 32 GB class 9 memmory card was compatable. Confirmed $30 off new contract. Confirmed $100 bonus for a 4G/LTE upgrade. Told them that I did not want to change anything on the contract. Just a new phone and a 2 year contract. FedEx brings it to me Friday.

I went into a store and they were gonna charge me $199 plus the $30 upgrade fee. Dammit, I want the discounts too! Why is my price different??? Do I have to call and order the phone?

Not enough digits in the phone number... Who did you buy the phone from? How in the world was there a $30 discount vs an upgrade fee? And was the $100 bonus because you never used your NE2 upgrade?

This sucks from Verizon big time but maybe the shared data plans will be decent enough to soften the blow. Sadly Verizon is really the only choice for decent service in my area. Sprint is spotty, AT&T just activated 3G little over a year ago, and T mobile and US Cellular have no phones that interest me at all. Although I would love to go some place cheaper it just isn't an option. Hope to hear something about the razr he because im sitting on a $50 dollar loyalty fee plus a $25 off coupon that lasts until the end of july. So here's hoping.

I'm also in the same boat where I need to upgrade to 4g shortly from my droid x. Who's waiting for the fighter?

I might just jump the gun and get the MAXX if it really is 69$$.....
