Discuss: Motorola's X8 Computing System

I wanted to start a discussion about this new X8 system and the CPU's.

What are everyone else's thoughts?

Any real advantages or pros over other high-end phones (S4/One)?

What about the 4-core GPU? Doesn't the chipset already have 4 CPU's? So wouldn't any other phone with the same GPU chip also have 4 graphics cores?

There seems to be a lot of marketing hype here.

It's pure hype and basically an S4Pro dual core from a year ago. I'm not about to spend $700 for a phone that's a year old at launch despite the X8.

The X8 adds a proc (DSP) for sensor monitoring and another for language processing. I like the idea but don't understand why they couldn't have used the quad core S4Pro instead and/or dropped the price $200.

I thought I would want to buy one of these but without HDMI, SD Card, and now fewer app cores there's just no way...

Now my fear is that the Moto-X will be $299/$349 not at the rumored un-subsidized price but as the subsidized price. It's basically the same hardware. I can't see it being sold for half the money...

I'm thinking the same thing as you. Most of the articles from yesterday seemed to merely hype up the same info they got from Motorola; except for one. Phonescoop's article reminded you that many other phones have the same GPU, that no one is bragging in the specs or in marketing an extra 4-cores.

If the X Phone ends up being cheaper, I don't see how these Droids can compete...unless Verizon doesn't offer the X which I could very well see that happening.

I'm ready for a new phone because my Galaxy Nexus is getting really laggy these days and I'm getting poor touchscreen response; even after wiping/resetting the phone. I'll gonna wait and see what the GN3 and G2 offer; and whether there's going to be another Nexus phone. I could see myself going with the S4 Developer Edition if it's ever in stock.

the xphone is limited by only 16gb onboard memory with no sd slot and a 2200mah unremovable battery. the maxx will have twice the memory and 1300 more mah. these are real practical features.

as far as money wise, if the motox is $300 off contract, does that mean it'll be free with my upgrade? otherwise, i need storage to not worry about running out of space (mostly due to game data for me) and 3500mah battery that's only 8mm thick to not worry about running out of battery. How much is it worth not to worry?

just seems much more mature to me. I've been quite disappointed with my gnex's battery and radio. performance is actually still very good, because it's rooted rom'd and optimized (ram manager with more free ram setting made a night and day difference). there's also an app that recalibrates the touch screen. seriously, the dual core from 2 years ago is good enough. the lag, if any comes from some sort of I/O degradation that cheap solid state memory experiences (but not the more quality drive in the iphone, or at least this is what i've read).

The rumors I've seen on the X suggest there will be a 16G for $299 and a 32G for $349. The real question is whether these prices hold true and if that's with or without a subsidy.

I believe the notion that the X is a mid-range device and priced accordingly may be false. Based on these nearly identical Droids it looks like they'll be pushing it as a flagship and with a price to match...

I really want to understand this Moto X8 technology. Truth is I understand very little about chipsets and productivity. I'm like 99% of cosumers (even though I've rooted and Rom'd for 4 years), thinking more = better. You know dual is better than single, 4 is better than 2 and of course 8 is better than 4. I hear everyone saying that Moto X8 is just "marketing hype" and I tend to want to believe you but can anyone explain to me in a real world sort of way, how that is true and what I would miss by getting an X8 vs. an 8 core?

I listen to music (streaming mostly) play Temple Run (occaisionally), check email, text, make calls and sometimes stream movies.

I'll admit I don't know much about the x8 either , bit I want to get back to the first statements you made.

The number of cores really isn't that important. 4 isn't absolutely better than 2, and the same thing goes for 8 vs 4.

In fact, there isn't a true octa core on the market. The s4 just switches between 2 sets of quad cores. Its impossible for all 8 to be used at the same time. So you either have the high power quad core or the low power quad core running.

What I'm trying to say is don't fall into the marketing hype, because that's just what it is... hype.

The 8x is a dual core CPU, and I believe quad core GPU, but those numbers by themselves don't mean anything

I have been captivated by the videos showing the rapid response from "just listening" to "actively processing a command" states.

I expect that my next phone will either be the Ultra or the Maxx depending upon funds available
