Is there a way to tell which my device has? I KNOW it isn't AMOLED. Also, what are the differences? I didn't know there were multiple LCD subsets.

Nope. IPS is still an LCD display, with the same disadvantages in direct light.

Yes, due to the way the liquid crystal molecules are "switched" parallel (in-plane) with the glass substrates.

Believe it or not, I actually prefer amoled. Despite being over saturated, I love it.
