Help Display Timeout "Stuck" at 15 Seconds??

scudder

Android Expert
I'm having a problem where my EVO Display Timeout is "stuck" at 15 Seconds. No matter what options I choose (2 min preferred) the screen times out at 15 second.

The problem seemed to correspond with enabling the app Juice Defender but spoke to the dev, tried some things and it just seems to be coincidental bc the problem still exists with Juice Defender shut off. I tried a simple reboot but didn't help. Did not try to uninstall Juice Defender as I thought I didn't have to go to that.

Anyone ever have this problem? Any idea what other apps might be controlling my display timeout? Perhaps there is some other fix for me to try?

THANKS!

I received comments at the Juice Defender forum from the app's devs suggesting to try turning off Juice Defender and see if the problem recurs (duh!!...good idea, huh??) So I turned off JD, and the problem STILL happened.

So, it does NOT seem that the problem was caused by JD (though still ODDLY coincidental that I NEVER had this problem until trying JD but...). So I followed up and asked for names of apps that might be conflicting/controlling my screen display timeout settings. I then got a reply that there were "too many apps to list that might cause this problem"

????

I was a bit confused by this reply.

My original thought with the screen timeout issue being caused by Juice Defender was because there is a SPECIFIC SETTING related to that screen timeout. I know that various apps can, perhaps, affect a phone sleeping or can keep a phone "on" for its purposes but the problem I was having was VERY specific...with NOTHING running other than what I have been using for months, my phone now ha the screen turn of PRECISELY after 15 seconds of being on. It is not a random occurrence...and not for a random time. If I "power on" my screen on my EVO then PRECISELY 15 seconds, my screen shuts OFF. It is AS IF my screen timeout setting IS for 15 seconds but, like I mentioned, it is not set for that interval.

Because my issue is SO PRECISE and specific...a recurring timeout for EXACTLY 15 seconds....THAT was why I was wondering if anyone else could comment on what might be causing this. Perhaps my best bet is if someone reading this has had this happen or knows someone who has had this happen. I was therefore wondering if there were any apps NOTORIOUS for causing this type of screen timeout conflict (and with such repeated precision)

I guess I am a bit confused and surprised at the comment about "so many apps" that could cause this problem because, in my short experience with the phone, yet a decent knowledge of many of my apps settings, I cannot quite come up with the name of an app that I could remember settings and preference options and say "yes, I can see that app might affect my screen timeout." THAT is why I was hoping for some app suggestions to look at. Can anyone provide one or two examples of such apps and WHY they would affect screen timeout?? Like I said, I just CANNOT quite think of one that might because I have never seen an explicit setting option that might affect it.

THANKS!!

I am having the same issue but after installing and using Widget Locker. I setup the screen timeout at 15 seconds and now no matter what I do the screen times out after 15 seconds. Even after disabling Widget Locker this doesn't seem to help. It looks as if Widget Locker has changed some phone setting which wasn't there before, and now the phone will follow it regardless.

It is so annoying because before when a webpage was loading, the screen would stay on, but now it would just turn off regardless. I have to constantly keep pressing on the screen after 3 - 4 seconds to keep it from going into sleep or lock mode.

I am really annoyed with how devs play with android and would like a fix for it as well.

Please update this forum if you've found a fix as well. I'm keeping a close eye out for one too!

Thanks.

Sorry if I neglected this thread...usually do NOT do that ESPECIALLY when I have received an answer to an issue :( I think I might have posted the info below in the Juice Defender forum I posted at and neglected to do so here.

Anyway, not sure if this information is helpful to you but I found that my issue was NOT caused by Juice Defender but, instead, a "no-lock" widget called "Screen Mode Widget Lite." Don't know how or why...didn't get to the bottom of it...but there was some sort of conflict with the widget taking over my screen timeout settings in order to employ one or two of its no-lock-screen modes on my phone. When the Juice Defender dev mentioned that it could NOT have been JD that was causing problems, I did a little troubleshooting and found that this screen mode widget was the problem.

Hope this might help your situation...
