Distributed File system development in android

Hi,
I am an engineering student and i am planning to build a distributed file system in
android which is distributed over a group of mobile phones which are connected by wifi.Can anyone help me out to do with this or is it possible to create a new file system on top of android.

If someone helped you too much you wouldn't learn much from the experience :)

That said, your easiest route is to use Android 4.0 phones (coming soon) as they will support ad-hoc WiFi networking.

since a distributed file system is more OS-related than app-development related and the ROM devs might have a better idea / experience.
