Root Dk17??

AHM

Lurker
Hey all, I did a bit of research and decided to root my phone. Everything seemed to go well and my phone is functional. However...
I'm having some issues. I noticed that my baseband version is still DK17, yet I'm running Viperroms Frozen ext4-rfs DK28 dual 4.0.3 and it works but seems pretty slow.
Another problem I'm having is that my WiFi tether connected 3-4 times now won't connect at all (waiting for network to respond)
I've been running this way for a few months and honestly I haven't cared much but it's been in the back of my mind to straighten this out.
I'd like to hear some ideas of what corrective action I should take to get this thing up and running smoother, quicker and more reliably!

use odin to flash ec05 :D you can use it to just flash the modem if you want. none of the fancy modem updater zips will work from dk17

OK, so what baseband should I be at? Last I saw was DK28 but it seems like if you aren't researching every day you lose touch with what's going on.
Honestly, I was expecting to see "OMG you're a moron!" or something similar.. Thanks for that not being the case.
I'll look into ec05 and see what it actually is.. unless someone wants to explain it to me.
IIRC I used Odin to apply the one click root with CWM3. I guess I expected to see DK28 automatically applied but either I did it wrong (doubtful) used a bad file (distinctly possible) or I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing (very plausible)

So, from what I've been reading it looks like the baseband is the modem of the phone.. also it looks to me like EC05 is the newest/best performing modem. It also looks like I can use Odin to flash just the modem. Am I on the right track here?

You shouldn't have had to Odin the one click root. That's just a program that roots your phone. Usually you Odin to update the modem (ie di18, dk28, eb13, or ec05) or go totally back to out of the box fresh state - flashing a ".tar" file.

You are definitely on the right track. Do you know how to do it? If not go to: Android Development and scroll down to his video tutorial (note the text that precedes the video, it tells you how to just odin the modem

This has worked for me in the past - right now I'm running Midnight 5.2 (which is found on Android Development) and the eco5 modem is automatically flashed during the rom install.

Thanks for confirming what I've been able to research. I'm thinking of flashing that midnight rom you keep talking about. I guess I'll use the standard edition as I don't have the tenacity to "build my own" rom. Thanks again.

Yeah - just follow his directions. You'll first flash the BYOR (Build Your Own Rom) and then after boot/shutdown - you'll then flash the standard upgrade which is found in the Midnight Extras folder (which you'll have to download with version 5.2 - the link for the extras is also on the same page)

If you have any more questions feel free to ask! You also may want to download one of the themes towards the bottom of that page - it has the ASOP lockscreen and battery percentage mod built in (meaning you get to see a number% in the battery icon)
