Help dl speeds drastically reduced

I have had my phone for a few months now with no complaints. However, in the last few weeks my wireless download speeds have dropped dramatically.

I have been using the speedtest.net app to gauge them.

A month ago I was getting speeds in around 950-1050 kbps consistently. Today, I only got 19 kbps! It has been slow like that for at least 2 weeks.

I was wondering if this could be a network issue, or could there be something wrong with my phone. I emailed virgin support asking this very question as well.

PS I live in central Delaware so there isn'r much in the way of coverage anyway.

I wish we had 4G in my area lol

I'm more inclined to think it is just a network issue, I mean, my phone should either work or not work as far as reception goes, right?
 
Update:

My speeds have not improved. I have been running Speedtester quite often. In different locations.

Is there a chance that it is my phone? Or that some app is doing something weird to my phone?
 
I heard that VM is going to be upgrading towers, and will be impacting reception...let me see if I can find a link to it....

While I do that, have you done a reset? What new apps have you installed? When did the data speed drop? Did you do anything new like new apps or ROMs?

And I can't find the link right now....But I'll keep looking around...I think I saw it in the virgin mobile forum. I'll see what I can find.

Did you get throttled? If you did then you'd get the old speed back at the next billing cycle. Throttling happens when you pass over about 2.5 gigs of data.

Thanks, I will give that a read. My data speed dropped about 3 weeks ago now. I haven't done a reset, mainly because I didn't want to reload everything if it was a network issue. I was probably going to go ahead and do that this weekend if it was still slow. As for apps, nothing really new, all from Google play, mostly games lately.

No, I haven't even hit 250 MB for this month, and rarely go over a gig really. That was what the Virgin reps response was.
