dnla

You don't need to "turn it on", you just need to either download a client, or get a DNLA enabled TV/Media server/HTC Media Link Box.

There is another thread about this that was opened quite recently, so I would suggest that you give that a read and of course "google" is your friend.

Good luck!

Thanks, so would my ps3 act as the server ?

Yes!

Twonky, Skifta, and imediashare are the main Android apps that people use to connect. They're all pretty easy to setup!

I currently have my PC, PS3, and DHD all connected to eachother and, therefore, I can play media on any of these devices, from any of the devices.

Any more questions, don't hesitate to ask, but if that helps, don't hesitate to click the "Thanks" button :D

how did u set up ur PC pls ?

I have a VAIO DNLA enabled laptop with windows vista, how to connect it with DHD and stream media from DHD to Vaio

So i need to download an app on my dhd to play music on my av unit via my ps3 from my dhd using dnla ,who said this was easy .

Have both the DHD and the Laptop connected to the same network (wired or wireless) > open "connected media" which should be in your apps drawer and choose music, photo's, or video's > The bottom icon furthest to the right show's connected DNLA media servers which you should be able to use.

If you want to use twonky, Skifta, or imediashare, they work the same, but use their apps to find your server.

If you cant find the server, then you need to ensure that it is setup with media in on your PC. I personally use Ubuntu as opposed to Windows, but I have used it on Windows in the past with a similar experience.

Hope that helps? ;)

If downloading an app is difficult, then you have the wrong phone mate! lol! Nah, I know what you mean. I think the idea was to future-proof the phone by using a new technology that isn't generally available on older TV's, etc. Personally I don't mind the hassle as it provides a pretty neat wireless solution, although some would prefer a HDMI connection.

It is pretty straight forward once you set it up and there are many options available so you can customise the hell out of it, plus some of the software will allow you to access media that is on your PC or PS3 remotely via your DHD for instance to play your own PC/PS3 media remotely whilst at your friends via their TV/PC/PS3!!!

Have you got Windows Media Centre???

On Ubuntu I use XBMC, which also works on Windows, so you can give that a try if you like?

What do you want to do? Play media from your phone on your PS3, or media from your PS3 on your phone?

If its media from your phone onto your PS3, then if, for instance it is a music track > Select the Twonky icon that appears in your music section on your PS3 menu and then navigate via genre, track name, or artist to the track you require. It should play, no problem. :)

I want to play music from my phone onto my ps3,when i click on the icon on the ps3 it says not supported format ! Is it right hsving my phone as the server and player ,as when i scan for other players it wont find any .

Yeah, that shouldn't be an issue. It seems the issue that you're having is that the files that you are playing are not supported by your PS3. This information is from the Sony PS3 Website:

"Types of files that can be played
The following types of files can be played under (Music).
Memory Stick Audio Format(ATRAC)
MP3
- MPEG-1/2 Audio Layer3
- MP3 Surround
MP4(MPEG-4 AAC)
WAVE(Linear PCM)
WMA

Hints
Some files cannot be played due to the data type.
Some music files distributed over the Internet have playback restrictions. For details, contact the content provider.
To play ATRAC format files, you must go to (Settings) > (System Settings) and set [Enable ATRAC].
To play WMA format files, you must go to (Settings) > (System Settings) and set [Enable WMA Playback].
WMA format files that are copyright protected cannot be played.
MP3 Surround files can only be played when the system is set for audio output in Linear PCM format.
When using a USB adaptor to play music files, you may need to use a USB adaptor (not included) that supports copyright-protection features (to play copyright-protected files)."
