Root Do-It-Yourself Custom ROMs?

Has anyone tried this to build your own custom ROM? There are bits and pieces of different ROMs that I want to have in one, but haven't found the one that will work for me, so I'm considering trying to make my own to have *EXACTLY* what I want, but I know *NOTHING* about coding. I found this link over on XDA, has anyone tried it before? If so, any tips / tricks / hints for it?

I have seen a fee people who have used the kitchen with great success. I say give it a shot! If it doesn't work the way yummy like then just do a nandroid.. if yummy do decide to do it let us know how it goes!
