Do Lots of Updates Eventually Cause App Problems?

I just updated several apps recently, like Facebook, FourSquare and other popular apps, and it got me wondering. Does there come a point when you're better off uninstalling the old updated app, and installing a "fresh" current version?

I'm asking this without any real knowledge of how the update process typically behaves. But I first installed FB a year ago, and they've updated that a bunch of times, so I wondered if all those updates ever cause issues with each other. I know generally that new versions are supposed to be tested for conflicts, but there's only so much testing you can do.

Just like on a PC they can cause trouble. Not updating is dangerous.

Best course it to manually update apps so you are aware. Open those apps soon. Watch for errors. Fix errors soon so you recall what to uninstall to troubleshoot.

As far as i know, most devs still push the full version of the app in an update so youre basicly replacing (overwriting) the whole of the old version but keeping app data (settings) so theres no need to uninstall and fresh install imo.

Speaking of updates.. always tap the "more" button under the three reviews then select "from this device only" and "latest version only" and make sure the reviews are ok before accepting an update

Thanks, Funky. Makes sense, but I wanted to ask it out loud in case there was some weird Android thing I wasn't aware of.

I've got a feeling this has changed recently and you now only have to download the 'updated' part of the app. I've noticed if I'm updating an app that is, say, 50mb it'll download a small percentage of that (maybe 4/5mb) and then just start installing it, whereas before it would always download the full amount.

If only getting the update is the case - it would be great in some instances.

I bought a keyboard app, and a lot of updates are just for another language added. I really don't need some form of Kurdish so I skip the updates. Security and improvement in app itself will get downloaded.

If a new connection to FB is the update - forget it.
