Root Do NOT install ED2 update

Ugh, these notifications for the OTA are getting really annoying. I'm considering just going up to ED2, Odin'ing back to ED1, and trying to get into Airplane Mode before the OTA is downloaded because clearing cache did nothing.

I actually had considered that too. What a pain... let me know what you come up with.

Thanks too for the tip on the apps.

I did exactly as u said and BOOM! i got root BUT i had to install superuser from the market because it didnt download automatically but still worked..but i feel u on this update thing...i had found the OTA by using ROOT EXPLORER under CACHE i deleted it thinkn its all good but still it pops up...WAT DO WE DOOOOO??? lol a lil over dramatic..

Edit- I found this code that mite help you guys seeming as i was stupid to delete some things i have to go back and do this whole process again but maybe one of u can see if this works to get that ota out of the way u have to have emulater to do this:

mount -remount,rw -t yaffs2/dev/block/mtdblock4/system (enter)
cd/system/etc/security(enter)
mv otacerts.zip otacerts.zip.old

Try it and see if it works...

Edit2- ok so idk if i fixed the ota problem or not BUT this is wat i did and this is wat happened: after i got done writing my first edit that u see above i went ahead and let the ota download..it did its thing and then rebooted my phone well after it got done i went to settings and checked to see if i had ED2 to my surprise im still on ED1...i went to "check for updates" and it says "your phone is up to date" my superuser permissions still work so im still rooted..its been this way for 30minutes now...im giving it another hour and if still no notice about the ota i will post wat i did that to somehow make it work...

Excellent.... I can confirm this.

However, I didn't have to script to rename otacerts, you can do that with root explorer :)

AFAIK, here's the trick... boot up after downflashing to ED1, do NOT take the update. Use root explorer to empty the cache folder as discussed, reboot, allow "update" (which no longer exists), and voila... ED1, still rooted, no ED2 pending... and w00t! root! indeed.

I tried this, and it works. Finally a full rooted Charge with no more update messages. Thanks.

After editing build.prop to replace all instances of ED1 with ED2 and restarting the phone, the about screen shows the build as ED2 but the baseband is still ED1. Is that string editable elsewhere? Does it matter?

Baseband SHOULD be ED1 because the baseband (that is, the firmware for the phone and data radios inside the phone) did not get modified at all with ED2.
