Do not upgrade to ics

Still running along, just fine for me and that's with tons of GO apps loaded, including their launcher.

Though, I'm about to go back stock just for in the interest of trying it.

If you want to go back to gingerbread take it to an ATT store and have them resflash it. They usually do it for free. This way you can go back to gingerbread, and try the update again or hold off for a while.

In the future, you can also make a backup of your Gingerbread system using Clockworkmod and Odin. That way you can get back and forth easily without having to go to the Store.

Just tried out a factory reset. I backed up all my apps with file expert. I then did a factory reset.

(DO NOT DO THIS IF ROOTED BTW. If you do not know what rooted means do not worry about it.)

I updated the apps that came preinstalled and chose to disable and uninstall any att apps etc. I put back on all my apps. And guess what? 2 reboots, and Then I launched like 15 apps at once. (Something that would freeze my phone before this.)
And guess what? works great, no laggyness at all. And know what else? Memory usage is now at 325mb WITH THE SAME APPS AS BEFORE EXACTLY. It used to be 650mb!! What a difference!!
I have 96 apps in total by the way.

I strongly recommend doing this.

Your skyrocket will be terribly slow!

I upgraded mine and noticed the following:

Ram usage has tripled! I used to use only 345mb or ram usually, now its using a whopping 638mb out of 768!!

Launching apps is dreadfully slow compared to before.

Sometimes when launching google play or another app my lockscreen will come up. What the heck?

Games lag now, riptide and nfs hot pursuit used to work fine. Now there slow as heck. I even tried forcing to use gpu rendering in developer options with no luck.

I have even disabled a lot of the preinstalled junk, thinking it will free a lot of ram. Which is/was my main reason for upgrading, but with all this high ram usage it defeats the point of why I upgraded. Disabling apps didn't really help.

This phone used to feel so responsive and awesome. Now it's as slow and clunky as my optimus v from virgin mobile. This sucks.

I urge you. DO NOT UPDATE. You will be very disappointed.

I have actually updated and the phone is definitely not "laggy" or has any issues whatsoever.

My personal advice before updating to 4.0.4 is to reset the phone. Yes, post update one would have to reinstall applications but for such important update, it is worth it. In any case, the upgrade worked very well (it took some time) but it was well worth it and the phone runs great.

i've shut down, rebooted, factory reset 3x. this is slow, there is more bloatware, they mess with the addressbook, forced bookmarks, no unlock to camera, mms pictures still show as video, bogus warning messages when you try to close apps, and this is on a factory reset phone with no apps or a few google apps.

i will never buy another carrier phone. i will only buy an unlocked google phone or an iphone.

here it is the middle of july 2012 and they release this shit.

imhaving the same issues all together, on one of my skyrockets,
I have 2 on 2 lines, one responded to the upgrade flawlessly, the other is constantly crashing and having terrible issues and barely works

I just posted a thread topic for help, in this forum

Im starting to come to the conclusion that the later builds of skyrocket took the upgrade fine where the original builds that were first released are having major issues, but im seekign help for answers

I just got my skyrocket 2 weeks ago, and accidentally upgraded to ICS. Don't know if I have any problems not as this is my first Android phone. It seems really fast. :-)

My advice: UPGRADE. The phone is much smoother and the experience is great. However, one piece of advice. Before upgrading, back up your data and reset the phone to factory specs. If this is done, the upgrade is smooth and the resulting experience is great. In fact, the phone locks better to LTE, and battery life is much improved.

I think that the ICS experience on the Skyrocket is great. I think it retains the best of ICS and the previous version in a consistent experience.

I have had no problems since I upgraded to ICS...
I upgraded using Kies and the Samsung website...

MUCH BETTER battery life now.

As a smart phone noob how do you actually go about backing up your data?

Also to do the factory reset is it the "factory data reset" under the privacy section of settings?

Will i lose all my pictures and music if i do this or will they be saved in the backup?

Thanks!

same with my skyrocket...horrible after the last update, so much bloatware from ATT added. Horribly slow and continous crashing, I got tired of it and rooted installed custom rom and all better. Superfast no crash and jellybean everything works win win for me
