Help do some games just not work?

K.P.

Newbie
I bought a refurbished 2012 N7 a short while ago. It updated itself to kitkat.

It won't run a number of games. Specifically, it will not run the original Nun Attack or virtually any of the simple escape the room type games, like those by Mobest. I think there are one or two others of note. They launch then they crash before showing so much as a splash screen. But then it will handle other, newer and older, games that are a lot more graphics intensive/physics based/etc.

Is this just some fluke, like makers of cookie cutter escape games haven't updated them to cope with them not working on an old N7 w/KK? Or should I think about sending it back?

Some system calls change from one version of Android to another. If the developer uses one of them that's no longer there in 4.4, and he lists the game as running on, say, 2.3+, you'll be able to download the game, but it'll crash. That's why the "Loading device compatibility" text comes up on the screen. It's checking to see which version is compatible with your phone. If the developer did it wrong. that whole checking system fails. If he tested it on 2.3 but nothing higher, he should list is compatible with 2.3 - and you'd never get it.

I thought it might be something like that. Well, I did with the cookie cutter escape games, but I expected better from Nun Attack.

Anyone else with a 2012N7KK experienced the same/different?

Could be the Tegra 3 SOC too. I've found a number of older games that should work, just don't agree with Tegra 3.

As for Nun Attack specifically, I'm still on a 4.3 Custom ROM, I'm installing now so I'll let you know shortly.

Edit - Nun Attack works fine. Anything else you want me to try?

Just tried nun attack on stock KitKat. Game loads but once I hit Play, there's sound but no visuals for the intro and then it crashes
