Do you bump charge?

idk if anyone else realized this, but i tried the whole turning off hte phone before bed and letting it charge all night...then when i woke up, pulled the plug out, and plugged it back in while still off, it CONTINUED to charge again for another 40ish or so minutes.

so is it doing the same thing when it's off?!

That's bump charging. Charging while off, is well..charging while off. Bump charging is unplugging and plugging back in repeatedly, slowly "bumping" up the charge. In theory bump charging should not happen at all. If it were, it would be overcharging the battery. ( Unless for some reason the battery was never getting close to full. )

Charging while the phone is off SHOULD work. That just has to do with the way Li-Ion batteries charge, means they are unable to reach a completely full charge due to the device using some of the power at the time.

I can't personally comment on bump charging, because I'm in the group that it just doesn't work. I unplug, plug back it back in..and within moments if not instant it's green again. No bumping occurs.

I turn off my phone every night when I go to bed, and charge overnight with phone off. Seems to be a more complete charge to me, and lasts longer than charging with the phone on...

My phone is on at night while it charges, reason is I use it to wake up "it has a great alarm, snooze mode", once out of bed I turn it off while stilll pluged in "light turns orange" by the time I get myself ready light is back to green, unplug turn on and off to work I go, the 2150 lasts me all day with more than 50% left when I get back home. But I also have a car charger just in case, and an external 3500 battery charger "good for charging any portable device or cell phone", will come in handy when I am out in the woods all day in November and December "the cold kills any battery" during hunting season.

60 hours on a stock battery? I call BS. I fully charge my phone and its dead (or at least under 20%) by the time I go to bed, and I use my phone a ton, but some of these people have to be using it more than me.

I did the "bump" thing for the first time last night and noticed a marketable difference in my battery today. Usually the bar on the front drops down within 10-15 minutes whether I use it or not. Today I got 30 minutes of heavy use before it dropped down.

You don't actually unplug it to get it to work.

Let it charge until it goes green. Simply turn it off, and my light turned red again. It was crazy.

i would bump charge from time to time but since i got a replacement phone (old one was having charging issues where it would stop charging randomly and then once unplugged it would have the battery lose its charge right back to where it was before i plugged it in) now i just plug it in and it holds its charged above 90 or so for quite awhile now. much better than old phone did. i am using the 2150mah battery though so that likely helps it some. i havent shut the phone off in 250 hours now so havent had a chance to really bump charge regardless.

Actually, I was pointing out 2 different methods. The one this thread is about, Bump Charging, you DO unplug and replug it in (multiple times in fact ). This method should NOT work as it means A) Theres something wrong and the battery is thinking it is more charged than it is. or B) You are currently over-charging your battery and damaging it, which means the phone is damaged as it is supposed to prevent over-charging.

The other method, has to do with the way Li-Ion batteries charge, that limits the maximum charge while the device is still on. Turning it off will allow you to top off the last bit. The only thing you have to do is turn it off. I usually call this "Off-Charging"
