Do you hate the Gmail App but love push notifications?

I just figured out that you could use the sense email app with a gmail email and still get push notifications, here is how.

Go into the Sense email app, (or any android email app should work)

Click the menu button, select accounts list, select new account

Select Microsoft Exchange Active Sync

Enter your Gmail Email/Password

BOOM! you have Gmail setup with push notifications

Remember to go into the Gmail app and turn off notifications so you are not double notified when emails come in.

Another note: I use exchange for work and on the motorola triumph I had to setup my email server as mail.yourdomain.com/exchange "yourdomain" being your exchange server, on the sense email app you have to leave out the /exchange so its just mail.yourdomain.com

Huh, never had that issue. Maybe you have priority inbox checked in settings? Try turning that off. Or when on your pc, under settings>inbox, set the inbox type to classic.

I just don't like the interface and having to use one app for my work email and another for my gmail. And yea you could just delete the Gmail app haha, don't you have to be rooted though since it came with our phones?

I must have had a bad copy or something, last time I disabled that, it didn't fix the problem.

Oh well, working now, thanks. Still not sure I like the layout, but we will see. I guess I'm old fashioned, I just want a normal email system. LOL

I dont like how gmail has all those extra folders that are starred and IMAP crap.... What the hell is IMAP anyways? Will setting it to classic get rid of all that? All I need is a inbox, trash, sent and spam folder like on yahoo. Also I don't like that u cannot empty your trash... Atleast wasn't able to on android 2.2 on the triumph.

If you are referring to gmail...

when viewing a message, you can click the little file cabinet icon on the bottom left, to archive. In gmail, a mail with no labels is considered "archived". When it first comes into your inbox, it will have the "inbox" label. So hitting the archive button is the same as removing the "inbox" label, which you can do also by clicking on the "inbox" label on the message, which will give you a dropdown to select which labels you want on the message. There is also a "change labels" icon at the bottom that does the same thing. If you wanted to move the message to a folder, gmail calls that a label, so you apply the label you want here. You can apply more than one, which is the advantage of labels over folders, at the expense of being confusing, at first.

Thanks. I was referring to accessing gmail with the sense email app (not gmails own app) though.

I tried using the Sence app for email, it only shows like 30% of my emails and half the time does not show new emails I receive. So that app is junk in my opinion as well as the gmail app. I don't like the layout of gmail and I don't like how there are like 20 different folders/labels. Drives me nuts. And can't delete anything from the trash is crap. I like using gmail because my phone and everything else is connected to it... But damn gmail sucks bad. Is there a way I can change all this???

Has anyone who is using the stock HTC email app for their gmail account noticed any delayed notifications? I've been accessing my gmail through the HTC stock app for the past couple weeks and have noticed recently a delay in getting my messages. I have the app set to "push". This morning I ended up getting notified of emails I received an hour earlier.

I am writing this because I want to help all these people who want to have push email when using the stock Email application on Galaxy S3 and other Android phones. I used to have a Blackberry and I find it extremely easy to use the push email option.

It is really extremely easy. This is the step-by-step process:

1. Go to phone Settings.

2. Go to Accounts and Synch.

3. Select Add Account.

4. On the screen that shows up, select Email.

5. On the next screen write your email account (eg. johndoe@gmail.com) and your password.

6. Click on Manual Setup (DO NOT CLICK ON NEXT).

7. On the next screen choose Microsoft Exchange Active Synch (yes, this is the correct one, do not be surprized!).

8. On the field Domain\user name, make sure that you have your complete email address, preceded by a \ (ie. \johndoe@gmail.com).

9. Your password should also be entered (it is done automatically, but if it is not, add it yourself).

10. In the field Exchange Server use m.google.com (check with other email providers what you shoud use - I use a gmail based email service (gmail apps) so I can not help you here, but I am sure that it is easy to find out).

11. Check Use Secure Connection and uncheck Use Client Certificate.

12. Click Next and OK if an information box pops up.

13. Change the Account options as desired and click Next.

You are all set. It works like a charm for Gmail accounts, you should make sure it works also for other services / email providers.

Good luck!
