do you have a phone you are particularly fond of?

a while back I upgraded to an S4

Im not using my old x10mini hardly but I can't seem to bring myself to get rid of it, I love... the size, that it is a bit of an underdog with its 600mhz cpu, how long its tiny battery keep going, the reactions it used to get when people saw it and finally it's super loud speaker!

was considering installing a custom rom bringing it above 2.1 that the official has it stuck on, maybe 2.3 or 4.x? to give it some more usability although Im not sure if I can justify running 2x sims and 2xlots of topups

(before that I probably liked my blue angel which is probably considered ancient as far as smart phones go ;) )

does anyone else have an older phone model they are particularly fond of for whatever reason?

Believe it or not but I am very fond of my ZTE Force 4G LTE, I am having extreme difficulties leaving her. We've had some interesting moments but in the end, she loves me and I love her no matter what complications may arise. :what:

Oh, my old Motorola RAZR V3, from back when there was only one colour (aluminium). Fun to use (flipping a phone open to answer, shut to hang up is fun :)), compact, robust, good reception. Sure, not useful for anything other than calls and text, and text was painful as well, but still have it (my daughter uses it when she wants something more robust/more expendable than her smartphone).

I no longer have my 1994 Nokia 2140, but I have a soft spot for that phone. Every other phone I've had has quoted unrealistic maximum battery life, but that one could last almost 30% longer than the quoted spec (i.e. up to 23 hours standby, rather than 18 in the spec ;)).

Heck, my old Ericsson T68, for the tiny size, bizzare shape which happened to fit my hand very well, and absurd battery life (didn't quite do a fortnight, but reliably lasted longer than a week). But the casing was cracking in several places before moisture damage finished it off.

To bring it back to Android, I spent a lot of time hacking my old Desire, working around its limitations, but I have to say I've not looked back. It's still in the drawer though, and could be used if needed (the green tint the AMOLED developed over 3 years is really obvious to me when I look at it now though, in a way it wasn't when I was using it every day).

Oh the memories of the original RAZR, that as well is probably one of my favorites too. Had the solid black version (only color that looked crazy cool for that phone :p)

It lasted me a good 5 years before it finally died on me.

That's when I was introduced to the world of Android :)

I loved my Motorola Rizr z6tv, that thing was a tank and pretty fancy too as it was a slider. It had really good battery life and the reception was stellar. Really hated abandoning it but just had to get a Motorola Droid (OG) and join the cool smartphone crowd :) I gave the Rizr to a friend and she used it for a long time, the rubber front enter/select button fell off so she gave up on it. It still works, it just has no one to love it anymore.

The Imate Jam was a fantastic windows smartphone, and with voicecommand installed it was fantasic... long before those noobs apple and android came along.

yeah MS were there doing it all first (they probably copied someone?), if only they had the initiative to setup some kind of store, with pricing like we have now!

I remember having to goto loads of different sites to get all the programs I wanted with some authors wanting unreasonably high prices for their "specialised" software not like the $1 apps or totally free ad supported stuff we have now. :)

t68 was also a good one, I remember at one point reading there was a dev unit that ran java, I remember searching hours trying to find that java update, I either lost interest or upgraded to a smartphone I forget which.

never had a razr but love the old flip phones, would be cool to get an android flip phone (for a older die hard flip phone fan I know) but the only ones I have seen are on ebay, expensive and from unknown chinese brands.

I love my galaxy s3 nuff said. However I'm never opposed to getting the latest and greatest. I keep my old devices because its just too Much fun and its always the perfect backup.

mine is the Android phone i use now. in fact all my current devices that run Android. but as for my phone, my Galaxy S4 has become the new Nokia 5185i to me. i plan to keep using it until it dies. i'm what i would call a 'Samdroid' (Samsung + Fandroid). i have all-Samsung stuff now. Galaxy Note 10.1, Tab 3 7.0, Galaxy Tab 2 10.1, Samsung Smart TV, Samsung Smart Blu-Ray player) and i am enjoying the consistent UI and stability :)

I am not opposed to updating if something that i find superior finally does come out, but often keep devices for a long, long time (years) so long as they remain operable and work fine, and if they have features i use often. i will only upgrade when i desire a new feature that i can make good use of. i get kinda set in my ways like an old man until then.

They actually do have an Android flip phone, but it isn't sold in the US. it's called the Samsung Galaxy Golden.

I have a soft spot for my old HTC One XL. Got that phone, and loved it from the first moment. Loved it even more once I rooted it and shed the AT&T-bloated ROM it came with. I'd probably still be using it if there hadn't been that unfortunate encounter with a sidewalk...

my S3 ended up meeting the concrete one too many times. it had landed 'butter side down' tons of times, often doing nothing more than popping the battery cover off. the last time the screen was completely dead. you could see tons of microshatters (like a spidered windshield) and it no longer lit up period. that did not help my feelings for it since i had the Portal 2 Turret app running on it, and when it fell, it said 'i don't hate you' in that awful cute voice. was probably the one time i hated to 'kill' a Portal turret!

my S4 is now in a rubber case, dropped it and chipped a little shard of glass away from the surface at the top, wondered if there was any way to fix it without doing the whole screen like autoglass repair ? its almost unnoticeable tho ;)

had a look on ebay... wait that's just a normal samsung galaxy but golden coloured ... damn you ebay....

search again.... "SAMSUNG GALAXY GOLDEN I9235" . . . price range from $709.99 to $1,500 USD (

i think that is the closest you get for an Android flip phone though. the other option are older sliders aka T-Mobile G1 or some other older model and that only remains an option so long as you like downgrading to Android Donut or FroYo.

Went back and forth many times, i just couldn't get into flip phones. my favorite was the Samsung SGH-x427 which was nice, i loved its 'sounds of spring' ringtone, and it had a very old incarnation of what would become Nature UX later on, and even animated 'live wallpapers' but like most flips i felt it inconvenient to open it up to see who called me or to do anything. i much preferred my 'candy bar' Nokia 5185i.

my grandmother still has her own x427 and it still holds charge with the stock battery (over a decade old now). i was surprised how it aged quite well. they used the same Chrome bezels and such as they do now in their Galaxies, it has live wallpaper, a notification LED, and neat, customizable 'flip open/closed' ringtones. i had mine doing sounds of a Star Trek communicator and it got worn so much the screen flipped open easily so i would flick it open like Captain Kirk.

My Moto G is the second phone I have ever owned. I owned an iPhone in the past but then it was shut off because AT&T decided to over charge us so my dad just stopped paying them.

My sister got my it stolen so... I would have kept it, just to have it but I wasn't very fond of it because it didn't stay as a device that I would rely on. Didn't have many memorable moments with it like I know I will have with my Moto G...

Like it giving me directions to Michigan and tracking all my bike rides. That's something I'll remember in 10 years. Which gives a bigger meaning to my phone.

Oh also using this phone to communicate in this forum like 95% of my post are actually from my phone.

Samsung's Galaxy Golden really isn't much from what i read. it's too expensive and has very low specs, but using a more S4-like version of TouchWiz, just asking for lag. i live in a town full of old fashioned folks, but am continually surprised to see older flip phones (original RAZRs, Rugbys, etc) and even one Nokia 3100-series phone yesterday. i was no aware the 3100 series even worked anymore! monophonic ringtone and all.

Another Motorola V3 fan here - I've still got my one, complete with totally OTT box and the original charger. It still works too.

The only other phone I still have is my Sony Z5. Compared to now the specs are laughable, but 14yrs ago a POP3 email client and HTML browser in a phone were groundbreaking. I'll never part with this little beauty. :)

I used one of those for a few months after I'd broken the phone I had on contract. Battery life was stunningly bad (I got it after my father had used it for 4 years) but the thing was indestructible.

Only the SE K800i and that's only because I used it for years, great little phone.

I haven't seen 'Sony Ericsson' in a long, long time. the last one was a Walkman phone from 2006. i had a flip phone with that name for a short time before it got messed up and i ended up tossing it out the window long ago. thing was a nightmare.
