Do you have a tip/trick for ICS? Post it here.

This doesn't directly answer your question but I decided to go with GO SMS after using stock messaging for a couple weeks and glad I did. It allows you to do this along with many other options that stock messaging doesn't allow. Surprised stock sms doesn't allow you to do many of the things handcent or go sms does.

Agree go SMS is the best and yes it will allow you to copy message text and past elsewhere
 
You can copy & paste with the stock app but it seems you can only copy an entire message. Once you paste you can delete anything you don't want to keep. Would be nice if you could select the text you want to copy. Regardless, stock app works well enough for me.

I won't put this in blue because it's not specifically an ICS tip, but for anyone who hasn't used it, one of the best things about the Swype keyboard is being able to shift into 'edit mode' by swiping to the right over the two bottom-left keys. This displays four arrow keys, select/copy/paste/delete, cursor jump (great to select a large block of text at one time), end, home, forward/reverse delete, etc. This works in any text entry box, so it gives you full editing even in apps (like SMS) that don't provide it or where it's more limited. Frankly, even if I just used Swype for regular key-by-key typing, I'd still want it for this feature alone!

I have Swype and have never seen this ?????

I read all 11 pages and although 2 tips, I thought would solve my need, they didn't. Or I wasn't smart enough to figure it out.
I miss the battery status led that I had on my Dink. I tried Lightflow & morequicklypanel, but neither actually provides, in a clear /visible manner, status. Lightflow has the full screen random leds when the screen is off, but it's only the (very) small Notice bar when on. With mqp you need to pull down the icon to get the info.
When I'm driving & using Google maps I would like to " easily " see what the various status are. I have beautiful widgets battery on my home screen. I guess I could cycle between the home screen & maps every once in a while. Unless someone has a tip or what I could use

Sounds like a great idea to do but I don't know anything that does this yet
 
Not sure if it was mentioned already or not, but....

Using the stock keyboard pressing the shift button and then long pressing it again will give you caps lock.

That was bugging me. :rolleyes:
 
I know this has been answered a few times but i am still confused on how to properly close an app so it doesnt keep using background data...or is there a setting to turn background off when not on wifi? (minus emails) or do i need to "force close" the app? if so will a normal app killer take care of this or is there somewhere in android that i can do this? this is the only criticism of android vs iphone. so again, how do you stop an app from using background data and properly close an app?

To close an app simply back out of it and clear it from the the multitasking list.

To restrict background data for specific apps go to settings > data usage and then pick the app you wish to change settings on. Scroll to the bottom and change the background settings.

To restrict background data for the whole phone go to settings > data usage and set a data limit at the top. Once a data limit is set hit the menu button and select the option to restrict background data.

Does this actually work I have herd mixed reviews where even when it is restricted it still uses data
