Do you think eventually Android will only be on one device, a Google device?

I know they said that it wont be the case, but do you think that eventually, down the road, Google will put out their own device. The purchase of Motorola Mobilty will most likely go through and then why wouldnt Google use Moto to produce their own device and be the only one to offer Android?

Or maybe offer a "dumbed down" Andorid version to other manufactures while offering a full Andorid OS on their device.

I actually think that is a real possibility. I know its what Apple does, but honestly, that tactic/technique sure doesnt look like it hurt Apple at all.

Your thoughts?

I hope not because I like how we have a wide variety of phones to chose from sporting the Android OS.

i do not believe that it will come to that.. because that is not what google makes money on...

they make money (lots of freakin money); from internet advertising.. so.. they want their OS in as many hands as they can.

they give out the OS for free... so that OEMs will use it in their phones...

the customer wants variety.. that is why android is winning the phone OS war.. WebOS lost and Windows is losing..

and they dont want to play war against apple under apple's rules...

let the OEMs battle the hardware race.. and research.. and development...no matter which OEM is winning.. Google wins with android in the phones!!!!!

With the way Google has developed Android I can't see them deciding to take apple's approach to the OS. What has worked for apple was set up that way from the start while what has worked for google was also set up that way from the start.

I think the diversity that has been harbored by google's approach to Android will result in Android's triumph over iOS due to it harboring competition between phone makers. I see iOS going down the same road as nokia and BB.

This. It's all about how the company makes money. Apple makes money by selling hardware. The last thing they want to do is open source their OS and let anyone and everyone put it on anything they want. They'd be shooting themselves in the head doing that since they make money by selling hardware. Google on the other hand makes money selling ads. So it is in their best interest to get their platform on anything and everything that could possibly run it so they can sell the most ads to the most people.

I don't believe Google will take that approach. They understand the advantages of the open platform philosophy and have been employing that philosophy successfully.

Who do you think make the Google phones to start with? HTC and now Samsung, Android is nothing without the OEM's.

They don't need Android, Android needs them. :)
