Accessories Docking station for epic

I got the dock and the hard case along with my phone. First You can use one or the other but the phone wont fit in the dock with a case on it. Second my phone when connected has no "docked mode" as shown on the instructions. only acts like its plugged into regular charger. I called sprint they said call Samsung I called Samsung and waited on hold till I was almost late for work. will try again this afternoon and report back. Anyone else have dock trouble?

Also just to put it out there, aside from the dock problem so far this phone is awsome! Its my first Android phone. Had a pre and an Instinct before that.

Read the leaflet that was included. You need to download the Car/Home Dock Samsung from the Market.

It's pretty awesome once you get it. Can't wait for 2.2 when the external speaker jack starts to work.

Found it, seems odd to not have included it but I guess its easier for them to update an app instead of having to include it in a firmware update if they need to make changes.

Does anyone else think the Dock is a bit overpriced? I don't think it's worth the $40 I paid for it.

Where did you find the download?

Nevermind, found it.

Okay mind times out and screen goes black with the dock app open? Don't see a setting just for it. Anyone else?

Same here. Poorly designed.

I also bought the extra battery, but I might return that too. I forgot the Epic doesn't have a sliding battery door, and removing it everyday might wear it down a lot faster.

I got the rubberized case on mine, and I have the same problem. Guess I will have to return the docking station. Too bad. Nice idea.

Why does anyone think or expect docks to be designed around using a case? The only company that ever does that is Seidio. For as long as the iphone has been out (and they have every accessory under the sun), Seidio might be the only company to do the dock/case combo. It's near impossible to design a fixed dock to accept a case because cases are different, and trying to design an adjustable dock to work with different cases can be expensive. It's a $20 upcharge on ProClip's adjustable powered holder for the iphone. And again, they don't make an adjustable powered dock for anybody else. One must just come to accept it or go with Seidio.

as far as price, I haven't seen an "official" dock yet that hasn't seem overpriced for what you're getting. End up relying on third parties to come to the rescue.

The car/home dock app is basic to say the least. Seems to me samung forgot to make the app and had to rush and get one out quickly, hopefully it will improve with an update. Other than that awesome phone

OK I get all of the above, but when I place it into the dock it hits the volume rocker and mutes the phone!!! So no movies, utube, etc....
If I place it in, then push on the left side it sometimes will allow me to bring the volume back up, but if I need to adjust it then it goes back to mute.
Any ideas????

Hey all,
I know this is coming from far left field but what the hey? I got new Epic like I lucked out and got day before release (ur, eh, I mean the day of release) and the first thing I did was stick a case on it. I am active and so me not having a phone case is like a a car not having a steering wheel. I just happened to have a RoadMaster VR4 backup camera monitor mounted on my dash. The sun toasted the outside camera so the monitor was of no use and I had removed it and left the cradle for it. It so happens that the cradle holds the Epic like perfect and the standard charging cable that comes with the phone (USB) on the power feed end cleared the cradle and I had an instant Epic GPS holder. I didn't go look for the cradle just now but you can search for it and it is probably only $10 bucks or so. So for about $10 and your Epic and cord and a cigar adapter from the Dollar Tree ($1) total of $11, you have a mobile docking station with power and holder for your Epic or probably most any super phone. Hope this helps. Good Day

I believe that this is a feature -- the phone automatically mutes in when docked. The idea being that you don't want the phone to ring when it is docked bedside. I could be wrong on this, but mine automatically mutes also.

Obviously the dock app is a work in progress. Samsung has said that an update will be issued so that the "line out" (earphone) jack will work. Currently, it is not enabled. The Samsung pix for the dock shows a weather icon which is not even there, but is certainly needed.

Hopefully, they will introduce many options with the updated software, like the ability to change icons/apps, whether to mute, etc. The biggest problem for me right now is the inability to adjust the brightness, other than night/day. Even on the night setting, you could use this as a bedside lamp it is so bright. I took a piece of cardboard and placed it over the display with an opening so that just the time is visible and even that is pretty bright.

I don't get how the volume is going down for some of you guys, its never gone down for me. if you just place it down and slide it on, it will connect. the only way i was able to recreate it was by placing it on the dock and pressing down on the phone, but you don't need to do that as it will slide into the connector perfectly without any pressure. it also has a valley that clears the volume buttons. as for the screen timing out, it's kinda weird, it happens to me sometimes, most times it stays on though. just get a widget like switchpro that lets you toggle the screen to stay on

Yeah, my bad on that one. I was meaning to update my post. If you place the phone carefully in the dock (close to the connector) and then slide it to the left with no downward pressure, there is no volume change.

if anyones interested, im selling mine, I posted to the classified with no luck but hopefully some Epic owners will see this. just pm me for details as I dont want to make this a for sale post, just a fyi

I stopped having volume rocker issues with the dock after I put an XO Skin on my phone.
