Help Does a new sim card help with 4G connection?

earsly

Hello! This evening I stopped by an official Verizon kiosk at the mall and compared my bolt to the display bolt since sometimes I lose 4G connection. The display phone had full bars on 4G constantly while mine kept switching from 4G to 3G. Also using www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/ the diplay phone got better download/upload speeds.

The Verizon rep restarted my phone and said it should fix it. My phone restarted and was on 4G for about 1 minute then it went straight to 3G. He said I probably have a bad sim card.

My question is does the sim card affect 4G signal strength or do I have a dud phone? Thanks!

Hmm, my phone has been doing the same thing since I got a new sim card. Could be, who knows! Majority of the time I'm on full 4G, but I have been noticing 1x and 3G sometimes.

From what I've been told they say the sim card is what registers your phone to the 4G network, if you have constant 4G drops you may want to have Customer Service send you a replacement card (its free) its worth a try. I have good coverage here in San Antonio, almost everywhere I've been I've had 4G on rare, and I mean rare occasions I do get 1X

The towers have limited 4g channels. You might be in a 4g area, but the tower might be fully subscribed for 4g at the time. That'll push you down to 3g if you're lucky. There's an HTC bug due for correction regarding the ability of the LTE radio to detect tower oversubscription and switch over to the CDMA radio for EVDO. Part of the battery drain in 4g areas is TBs churning for a 4g connection because they see carrier but the tower naks them. The TB currently treats no as a less friendly form of yes.

Whats going to happen when big red gets more phone that uses 4g? Right now only the Bolt uses 4g on that network. Sounds sad if its true.

Once they get to the point that they have most critical markets open, they'll backtrack and expand capacity.

But they will have more phones operating on the 4g network before they get the most major markets open. I see a lot of upset customers not being able to get 4g while a friend or family member has 4g but their phone dont. Does sprint have this problem?

There is a lot of misconception as to what a sim card does.
It's not a cure all for network congestion problems or signal issues.

If your in a bad area or there is network congestion due to limited capacity a new sim won't help you.

A Sim card contains the data necessary for your device to authenticate and encrypt data on the cell network as well as storage for contacts... nothing more.

Nope few of my friends have evo 4g and never loose 4g connection. even if they come over to my house they get 3-5mb download connection constantly and never loose 4g, while I am sitting there and one day I get full 4g signal and the next day there I get crappy 4g signal.
