Does android your own email account?

mileena

Lurker
I have my own domain name and webhosting, and I use IMAP email with that.

I think Android doesn't allow you to do that kind of email. It only allows four types of email accounts: gmail, hotmail, Yahoo!, and AOL. Is that true?

I couldn't use my own email last time I had Android, which was when I had a Verizon Motorola Droid II in 2011. I had to use gmail...ugh. This is why I prefer my Palm Treo 7.0 p. That lets you use any email out there.

Do you know will the Samsung Galaxy Note II support my own IMAP email? Or will Blackberry Q10? I prefer a physical qwerty keyboard and a giant touchscreen, at least 5.5". And a battery that lasts all day.

Thanks!

Thanks Rxpert83! That answers one part of my question.

Do you or anyone else know if I can use the email I have now that uses my own domain name and private webhosting on Android as well? Like jane@abccompany.com hosted on the LunarPages web servers, which I pay for?

of course you can. IMAP has been supported for a long time. Frankly I am surprised you couldn't find help with this with your previous handset.

imap amd pop3 have been supported by ever mobile device since before android was even a thing.

i have riseup.net running right now. it even auto sets up. but u can manualy enter ANY imap or pop3 server. period. no exceptions. even on a samsung blackjack. even on black and white palms. even on a moto razr, the old flip phones

Wow, ok, thank you. Apparently I must have been doing something wrong with my old Droid II. I look forward to my new Galaxy Note II then! Hopefully I can learn to handle the virtual keyboard!

When you set up your email acct I believe you'll have to manually enter your in & out mail server info.
