Does anybody else use Droid as an ipod/zune?

For those of you looking for podcasts look no further than google listen. it is great. built in search, resume, rss support and pretty good ui for use in the car dock. it also auto downloads over 3g or wifi (your choice) and adds the newly downloaded casts to your listen queue.

now, who knows of a good music player?
I'm surprised nobody has mentioned it, but I use MixZing for playing all of my music and it is absolutely incredible. Its reccomendation engine is near perfect and it's free. Much better than the stock Droid music app.

Another vote for Listen here. I use it to get my podcasts. I still use my iTouch mainly for my audible books as they do not yet support Android. DRM sucks. :(

Nope.. One of my favorite things about the Zune is zunepass.. I have no incentive to replace my awesome Zune HD with the droid.

If someone were to write a much better UI for the music and media player, I'd use it more.. but it won't replace the HD for my purposes.

i was wondering if it is possible to sync the droid with an app with winamp/itunes including the playcount and the rating.

is there an app out there?

currently i'm using an ipod synching with winamp including all informations the ipod can deliver (cover art, play count, rating, last played, added,..)
to do that with

i actually sold my ipod touch 16gb to help pay for my droid. And i dont regret it at all.

I never was able to test the droid, but i know how the g1 was, and i knew it would replace my ipod. So i was cool with it.

So a week before the droid was released, i sold my ipod touch, and then the Friday the droid came out, i bought the very first one in my city ha.

i just wish it had a equalizer, but i guess it'll come in time.

lovin it :d

What I haven't tried yet, but don't have high hopes for:
Bookmarkable/Audiobook playback - being able to play an audiobook file and pick it up later, even if I've played music, and have it start where I left off.

did some research and found that if I change my m4b files to m4a and put them in the "podcasts" directory, they are bookmarkable. Hooray!

Still miss Sound Check, and shuffling by album from my iPod, though.

cool. I thought I might have been a rarity in terms of this. Pretty cool that im not. Im gonna try out droidplayer.
I did try out maple player (or something like that), but i couldnt go back to the now plying list without the pull down notification bar so i axed it.

Still have a iPod Classic that I will keep bc it has my whole library on it.
I will use my iPhone 3G 16GB as a touch since its jailbroken and modded.

My Droid has basically ousted my iPod Touch, which ousted my 5.5G Video before it.

It's just more convenient to consolidate all my devices into one, and I don't really need coverflow or stuff like that. The built in media app in Android 2.0 suffices for organization of my songs, and I only use it for walks to and from class anyways, so I don't have really long playlists or anything complicated like that.

I still pick up the Touch sometimes though, to play a little Tap Tap or Rock Band.

I've been using BeyondPod, which cost like $3 or something, for my podcasts. It seems easier to me to use, particularly when you want to add a local podcast that isn't generally listed. It auto-updates the podcasts at a preset time (I have it set for 2 AM; which corresponds to when I have Locale turn on my wireless at home when it is plugged in).

I was thinking I might miss the "channels" on Zune, but with Slacker and Pandora I don't think I will...I like both of these but Slacker is the only one with a (hilarious) comedy channel.

I have been using the Zune less and less.

i just wish it had a equalizer, but i guess it'll come in time.

Yeah, my Droid doesn't sound as good as my iPod Touch (I use the acoustic equalizer preset) at the moment, but it sounds very similar to my iPod Touch when the equalizer is off, so I think that once the Droid gets an equalizer, it'll sound as good as any dedicated music player out there. :)

the droidplayer is set up like the ipod. im interested to see what others think of it.

I'm keeping my ipod Touch. Here's why this works for me:

1. I use my iPod(s) when I exercize. There are times when I want to just have a music player strapped to my arm or in my jacket pocket (like at the gym).
2. Using it as a music player is a battery suck. My Droid is primarily a *communication* device. It's cool that it can play music, but that's a low priority for me when it comes to a smartphone.
3. Since my phone is in a leather case, using it as a music player would require it to be out of the case in places like on the train. I'd rather not drop it while fumbling around for a grip or seat, etc.
4. I'm a girl. I carry a work tote during the week and a big purse on the weekends. Plenty of room.

Of course, if the Droid had come out without a media player I would NOT have gotten it. Yeah, I know. Fickle. :p

while I still haven't found a way to normalize volume when shuffling (like sound check) or shuffle by album, I would like to use my Droid in place of my iPod when I take the trains in to work this summer... as I stated, before, I'm worried about the battery life, but I'm willing to give it a shot.

What I'd really like, though, is a headset with some player controls, especially pause/play, next track, previous track. I'm not picky about wired, 3.5, micro usb or bluetooth, as long as it sounds ok and works. Since this is mostly for trains, some in-ear sound-isolation might be nice, too.

My vote for Podcasts is Mediafly!!! Free, works great on the Droid, you set up an account online, add to your favorites list and it syncs with your phone. Is awesome :)

Using my Droid for music much more than I ever did with my iPhone. I do still have my iPod Classic however it is pretty much relegated to stay in my car. Bought an aftermarket DVD/Navigation that has iPod connectivity. Droid fills all other music needs.

my droid pretty much replaced my 80gb zune. i dont wanna have to carry 2 things so the droid is all i carry now. the only annoying thing i dont like about it is that i cant skip tracks when the display is off. i have to press the power button, unlock it, just to skip to the next track. kinda tedious. wish there was an easier way.

I use Google Listen and podcast 2600, Off the Hook just fine. It even pulls in past shows so I can listen to more than one show/past shows.

As for the built in music player, yeah it works decetly well. I've discovered that it's a lot easier to play the music by making sure that each album has a playlist (.M3U playlist, like from Winamp). I absolutely HATE the way iPods, and the default/built in Droid music player works. I want to browse FOLDERS, not ****ing ID3 Tags... I recognize music based on folder location, not ID3 Tags. I end up trying to find a "Trance Classics" double album set, and can hardly find the beginning of one album. It's worse when you have dozens of things like this. So... the Playlists are a godsend.

A simple "Menu >> Add Folder to Playlist" or "Menu >> Play All Items in Folder" option would have been amazing. Honestly this is one of the main reasons I never stayed with the iPod. Such a hassle to organize my music again. I don't need stupid "synchronization" software to re-do what I've spent countless hours doing. I just want to copy & paste my music and still find it they way I find everything else on my PC. By knowing what folder it's in.

Now.. moving on.
An equalizer, and more options would have been ideal. Such as scrolling the currently playing track in the "Status Bar" and a Play/Pause button/widget instead of the huge Music Widget that takes up 4 whole icon spots.
