Does anyone actually USE the optical trackball?

Agree, only for editing text. And also agree with statement above that (IMHO) it's not as good as the optical pad on the Blackberry 9700 (which I also have) but both are better than trackballs.

If you compare to the Blackberry Bold which has a trackpad not a ball... blackberry is much better imo. I think this was the point.
I far prefer my brothers trackpad to min on desire. But overall Desire is far better :D

Yes but the Bold isn't a touchscreen nor would I consider it a smartphone which supports multitasking. Int hat case, your gonna be using the trackpad a damn lot to navigate around. We have touch support so we usually just dont bother with the trackpad since the screen is a much more convenient and quicker way to navigate. The BB forces you to use it, the Desire gives us an option so we take the touchscreen for granted and really dont rely much on the trackpad so I feel its better than nothing.

but it was you who started the blackberry comparison...

i'm just saying that they too offer a trackpad and it is better than that on the Desire. Regardless of how much you're going to use it i'm saying the Desire one could be of that standard.

Hehehe......well I will use it to edit text from this day forth as I hadn't actually though of that and so far have just used it in the Super Froggy game to move my frog.

When watching porn directly from the browser (thanks to froyo) you need to highlight, not click the video to get a preview, that is when the trackball comes useful.

:)

I rely on the trackpad a lot for editing text, but it would be much better if it had inertial scrolling like the BB and Nokia trackpads.
