Does anyone regret switching from iPhone to Android?

I can say with complete confidence and total honesty that I absolutely do not regret switching from iPhone to Android. I'll go so far to say that it would be impossible for me to regret such a decision! Android really is that good. Plus I've never had an iPhone.

Of the users im reading of here, i wonder how many were jailbreak suavy? its a totally different world once jailbroken, well worth having an iphone then. however the androids are nice out of the box. im still familiarizing myself with your hacking methods ie rooting and such. not sold on the androids 100% yet, still to deep in my comfort apple zone

Never have had an iPhone, I've used other peoples and I've had enough experiences with other 'I devices' to know android OS suites my needs better.

If I did have an Iphone previously, I probably wouldn't regret it anyhow.

The one thing I liked about iOS devices, was there were tons of accessories for them because of the few models.

Yep. I'm always so jealous when I pop into Best Buy (or hell, even 7/11!) and see all the iOS accessories. My Nexus (outside of cases) has next to none and our one table top dock is so overpriced it's ridiculous. :(

After Using Galaxy S3 for over 2 weeks, I am embarrassed to say that I do miss my iphone 4S. I know, I would probably be "killed" for saying that. For one, I do find Android interface UI not as user friendly as iOS. Secondly, some of the apps designed for Android lacks functionality as compare to the SAME apps designed for the iOS. Although Android OS provides plenty of customization but its too fragmented. I could do much better and easier customization on Jail Broken iPhone 4S with Cydia installed. Last but not the least, I have a feeling of massive memory usage/leakage r/t installed apps+ OS. May be the coding of the OS or the APPs (or a combination of both) is not strictly monitored for the memory leakage.
The built quality of S3 is so so as compare to iPhone. It feels more platicky despite $650 price tag for unlocked international version. But this is device related and has nothing to do with the OS or Apps.

But for now, I am going to continue to use Galaxy S3, re-evaluate in October when the new iPhone is introduced. The only thing I dislike about Apple is them being control freak and inability to easily JB iPhone. I know I am taking a big risk of posting pro-Apple post, but this is just my honest opinion based upon ONLY two weeks of usage. As I explore more of Android system, I may change my mind, so please go easy on this newbie Android fan:)

Well, at least your honest.

Maybe jailbreaking customizations have improved since I had my iPod Touch 2G, but I remember jailbreaking could render iOS a horrible, buggy, slow mess. If you were pretty conservative about the customizations you did it worked sort of fine. But performance hits were far more extreme than even with my old Android phone, which took a minor performance hit, at most. But I suppose modern iOS devices are a far cry from a Touch 2G though just like my Nexus being far improved over my Eris. :D

Although I'm not getting how fragmentation is affecting you? You have a top of the line Galaxy device, technically you shouldn't feel too much fragmentation.

i feel like this is a rehab support group/thread for recent apple owners. "my name is ghost, its been 13hrs since i picked up my s3, my first android..coming off of generations of ios..." and im loving it so far!

I switched when the OG Droid was released and don't regret it at all. Android is much more advanced and the last couple years every iOS update has just been trying to catch up (iOS 4&5).

I have had a few friends that regret switching from android to ios though.

May people know about Jailbreaking. they discover it when they want to unlock their iPhones. Most people here know about Jailbreaking because it is much like rooting.

I JB for one specific reason: so I can use my USB Flash Drives to load documents and other things into my iPad sans iTunes. I do this with a Cydia application called iFile.

Apple offers what they call the Camera Connection Kit but it will not work with the files I need to use.

on the topic of jailbreaking, are there any "activator" like tweaks i can get on the s3? i mean im using go-launcher, its great but id like to enable some buttons to work according to my liking ie the volume buttoms skipping tracks and so forth...how about a feature that allows me to use my s3's meny button on the lockscroon for some short cuts?

You might be better off asking this in the SGS3 forum.
Some of those features rely on custom ROMs to be enabled (it's a popular feature of CyanogenMod). There may be some apps out there for this, but I'm not familiar with any of them.

^ Agree :)

I think maybe Widget Locker for the lockscreen thing, although not sure.

I'm mainly posting to suggest the Nova launcher for anyone using ICS, no root required.

/off topic

Agree on both. (I use both apps)

WidgetLocker will give a lot of options for shortcuts and widgets on the lock screen. Total customization.

Nova launcher is the same as the default ICS launcher, but with a lot of added options.

Im beginning to miss the iphone games:
-fieldrunners2
-ac-130 zombie gunship
-some air combat type games...can anyone recommend a good ari combat game on android?
-slingshot racing
-gangstar rio
and maybe a few others. i cant understand why the google play store is so short handed awesome games? its great most things are free but however devs start jumping on androids bandwagon already?

Does the question count if you went from iOS on the iPad/iPod Touch to Android? If so, that would apply to me.

My first mobile OS was Windows CE but only in a PDA. I didn't want to sacrifice battery life of my feature phone for a smartphone. Then I discovered the iPad1 and loved the tablet/mobile OS-sphere. I switched my music library over to iTunes, rebuilt my playlists (many times as the crappy program crashed on Windows 7 multiple times and corrupted my library), spend $$$ in apps (games, productivity, even two $30 Slingbox Player apps for iPad and iPod/iPhone), got a selection accessories (cases, styli, bluetooth keyboards, HDMI dongles, etc.) and an iPad2. For about a year I was an Apple fangirl.

I didn't regret switching to Android mostly because I prefer a world of widgets and swype keyboards. I did suffer through app shortages (Netflix and Amazon Video were not available for Android yet) and crappy hardware (my LG Optimus was 800mhz dog-slow with crappy 3.2MP camera). The Samsung Galaxy S2 fixed all those woes. The ecosystem improved within 6 months of my owning an Android. Now it is pretty much on par.

I do like the quality of my iPad screen (the earlier Android tablets had really crappy screens) and there are some apps that appear on iOS long before Android. There's one particular Nightstand app that the developer only makes available for iOS.

I don't miss being chained to iTunes. I dropped out of being a fangirl before iCloud came on scene. My iOS devices are supposedly setup to use it, but I don't care. All my contacts, e-mail and calendar was on Google before I ever went to iOS.

Drives me nuts when people say iPhone works better. Some apps are better written for iOS, true, but the phone OS itself is extremely clunky. I hate having to delete apps or close them by holding an icon down, waiting for the wiggle and trying to tap the minus sign. I frequently miss the minus and have to restart the wiggle effect.

I tried out a I-Phone, before I tried an android. The Android system more closely resembles using a computer, and seems more logical to me, so I bought Droid Razar's for my wife and I.

No... Ain't really changed anything. (no 'Rooting' around either) ;)
I did download the Data Switch app when I bought our Droids, and
recently I updated to ICS., and cleaned the Cache with 2SD Pro.
BTW: It works. Much longer battery life, and no problems with ICS...

Confession...
I was born about 40-50 yrs too early to become much of a techie...
I'm still thrilled to have cells that work and perform most of the same functions as my twice re-built dinosaur I'm on right now.

I really do enjoy this forum. There is so much to learn, and not enough time, so I like to read what others have tried... Successes and failures.

I'm the opposite, I regret spending a dime on an iPhone, iPad, and Mac. All are NOT user friendly, contrary to popular misconception. Closing an app on osx is painful were as with win since 3.1 you hit the x. The tight control apple wants I guess works for mindless lemmings or something. I'm glad the included subliminal mind control never affected me.
