Root Does "Default Message" for rejected callers WORK??

scudder

Android Expert
Hiya...

I'm rooted running MikG 2.56 ROM so not sure how to direct others to get to where I am but I DO remember this feature on stock Gingerbread (rooted or otherwise). It's the "Default Message" feature....

For my phone, go to Home —> Menu —> Settings —> Call —> PHONE SETTINGS and there I have the options "Edit Default Message" "Edit Message" and "Save to Contact" (last option is irrelevant).

I have NEVER gotten this to work...never gotten this to prompt me to EDIT the default message before it is sent.

The only thing I DO get lately if a call gets to voicemail or is rejected/declined by my choice is the following Sprint message in my texts indicating that my attempt send a text failed:

From: 9230
Message sent using invalid number of digits. Please resend using 10 digit number or valid short code. Msg 2114

So there is clearly some attempt at sending a text being made however (1) I don't see it happen; (2) I can't edit it as I have chosen and (3) it is screwed up and produces an error message.

Anyone else notice this error? Anyone get this thing to work?

THANKS!!

I personally have never used this but looking at the error message it looks like you need to full phone number (ie... 1-234-456-7890) in order to send this text. I know a lot of us just use the 7 digits. Anyways hope that is the issue and you can get it to work.

Forgot to mention that with the advent of various locales/carriers "requiring" (or strongly suggesting) 10-digit dialing, lands lines included, I MADE SURE that my dialing and my contacts/phone book all have the area code. I don't dial or text with 7 digit dialing...10-digit always. I have also NEVER had this problem with my phone generating this message before and I've had the same phone since June 2010.

I do see you suggested a "1" in your "full phone number" recommendation which I do NOT have. Do you think THAT is the cause and my 10-digit numbers are now no longer sufficient? Do I now have to edit ALL my mobile contacts and prepend a "1" to their numbers?

Rather annoying that I haven't changed or had a problem with this setting and now in the past few weeks...

BTW, also just realized: how the hell does one shut the automatic default text message send feature OFF?? I don't seed that option (I'm on MikG 2.56 ROM)...

THANKS!

Well that would actually be 11 numbers and it should work with out the "1" I would think. I promised myself I would learn to count one day *L*

I'm not sure how you shut it off. I am using Xplod at the moment. I favor the AOSP roms. I think sense roms are to fat. I also use Go dialer and Contacts instead of the stock one. I don't see an option for that in the settings for Go so I'm not sure. Sorry I couldn't be of more help
