Does everyone's phone report 796mb ram in task/mem managers?

I honestly can't remember if task managers said 1024mb before, but I happened to notice after all the flashing I did that it says 796mb total.

At least under hardware information in settings it says 1gb.

Is android just reserving ~200mb for the system and the 796mb is what's left for apps? Or is it like a computer with integrated video where a chunk of the system memory gets reserved for video? That actually makes sense to me, as I know on a PC if you have 1gb of ram and tell the bios it can have 128mb for the onboard video Windows will only report the remainder as your total memory.

I noticed that also but keep in mind that the GPU gets some of that like you said. On my "sprint evo 3D" I have noticed that it says more total ram and once the phone starts up it actually also says more free ram. But maybe that the difference between Android 2.3 vs 4.0.

Yes the 796 is what's available to the user, the phone has a total of 1 gig.
