@bobTX10.. no trust me im definitely going to be ecstatic when I get this phone on friday im just getting a little nervous that im gonna get a lemon or that the incredible or iphone 4 may have been the better the choice. but at any rate this is till an amazing phone and I cant wait to get it! (i cant stress that enough)

oh yea and just to clear up the THUMBS DOWN icon, if for some reason that makes me look "shady".. i thought it was a question mark because i posted this thread from my cliq and the icons are very small

If I had a video camera, I'd record myself interacting with the phone and this topic would be over.

No device is perfect, every device has its share of flaws. But I can tell you for me, the EVO is a great phone. Most fun I've had with a cell phone.

^^^This pretty much sums it up.

Remember even though its a nice piece of hardware its just a phone, it wont be perfect, not yet at least ;)

But to answer the question, not enough to be an issue. it certainly doesn't lag enough to interrupt the usefulness of the phone at all.

Mine lags pretty bad to be honest. It's the only thing about it I can complain about. From opening apps to screen rotation.

I've notice no lag. It's faster than my iPhone 3GS in every aspect, does more and cost less with better and less expensive cell and data coverage. I'm a happy camper.

One of the features of the Evo that I am most excited about is that 1 ghz snapdragon processor but from what I keep on hearing is that the Evo tends to lag and always take a copule of seconds to launch an app. Also that the Incredible is much faster. Any thoughts??

Why don't you go to a sprint store and go test the phone for yourself. What is for someone else may or may not be for you.

The first minute and a half of that video is fantastic for outlining the problem with the Evo's tracking. The rest is just an Apple fan's rant on Android. Regardless, I'm glad he recorded that video.

How is it that first part proves anything? The majority of the time i have my phone in one hand so my thumb do the sliding for me,now if this video had show a more realistic way of operating the phone then i might see the point more clearly but to just flick as fast as you can means nothing,i can recall the iphone 1st and 2nd gen had checkers spot and the screen just turn white.

How about a fast paced game that requires you moving your finger across the screen really quickly? Something like table tennis? I've tried playing it, and I don't have a chance in hell of actually beating the computer because the paddle falls behind at a ridiculous pace. If you were to play the same game on the iPhone/iPod touch, you would see no such issue.

The first/second gen iPhones have nothing to do with this issue. If they showed a checkerboard pattern, it's because the phone couldn't refresh the display fast enough. That has nothing to do with actually using the device.

Oh, now I see, you are trying to blame your poor ping-pong skills on Evo "lag". That's cool.

Hah, thanks for plugging my video :P.

But really, the touch sensor lag IS something that can't be ignored by those who claim they can't see it. I've tried to play countless games of table tennis on my Evo since recording that video, and that paddle still lags behind.

lol...no problem for the plug. I think I could live with all the other short comings of the EVO, but this one might be the deal breaker.

Does this just happen on the EVO or is it a generic problem with Android?

I am still rolling with my BB 8330 until July 1st, so I am trying to figure out which phone to get.

Boy oh boy. Do you think I care about winning? Do you think I care about being cool? No. As you'd see at the end of the video, I move my finger around the screen before hitting the puck to show how badly it falls behind. So that's one app that's been affected, no big deal right? Not until you realize that a lot of games depend on you swiping your finger moving across the screen rapidly.

If this were just about ping pong, I wouldn't give a damn. As it stands, it's a much more significant issue that effects every Evo out there.

Nope, Android isn't at fault for this at all. As you'll see on ANY other Android device, the screen tracks touch input at an accurate pace, axis-switching problems aside. The Droid Incredible, which uses the exact same touch sensor, does not suffer from this.

Any phone from this day and age WILL lag. It's not really a question; even the oh-so fabled and mythically perfect iPhone *sarcasm if you can't catch it* lags. It's really a question of how often does a phone lag. I know my friend's blackberry (the new black one with a track pad) lags a hell of a lot more than my Evo. Heck, it even lagged more than my Hero.

That's the problem, you are using a puck to play ping-pong.

And I notice no lag on my Evo (but I have not played ping-pong). My iPhone 3GS lagged on scroll and some arcade type games. Maybe the new iPhone has less lag.
