Help Does GPS use any data or cost anything extra?

turn off mobile data (uncheck it), and turn off wi-fi
and see if it works. that will answer your question.

I think it does, but whats draws more data is the use of loading the maps.

If your driving around the nav will use data to update the map on the screen.

Im sure GPS uses a tiny amount of data but the actual map is what draws data.

Yes, the GPS itself uses a tiny bit of data. It's an "aGPS" (Assisted GPS). It uses your cellular location (By tower) to get a faster lock.
